  4. Children and mature adults we know about, but why is society so clueless about young people in between? | Gaby Hinsliff
    By Gaby Hinsliff

While there’s much mocking of gen Z, the idea that the state should do more for those aged 18 to 25 is catching on around Westminster. About time, too

  6. A Reform UK without Nigel Farage used to be unthinkable. Not any more | Gaby Hinsliff
    By Gaby Hinsliff

The scandals are building, his touch perhaps not quite what it was. And, most of all, his party rivals are beginning to sense an opportunity

  7. Losing a parent is a bewildering, lonely experience. Here are the things I wish I had known before | Gaby Hinsliff
    By Gaby Hinsliff

There’ll be exhaustion, love tinged with occasional rage, even moments of black humour. But my mum would want me to tell you: don’t be afraid

    By Gaby Hinsliff

The PM’s net zero pragmatism may please some voters, but as parts of the country go up in flames, it’s an increasingly hard sell

  11. My generation shouldn’t be scared of a care tax – we’re paying one already | Gaby Hinsliff
    By Gaby Hinsliff

If Andy Burnham is minded to grasp the nettle, he will need to sell it to people like me. The right will call it a ‘death tax’ – why not a levy for ageing well?

  13. Ann Widdecombe’s death should make Britain ask itself: what sort of political culture do we want? | Gaby Hinsliff

  14. This piece by Gaby Hinsliff, prompted by an anthropologist's study of English railway enthusiasts, caught my attention.

I'm less interested in considering the question "Should we stop trying to make men more like women?" than in challenging the all too often presented and hopelessly simplistic dichotomy of emotional regulation: "bottling it all up" versus "letting it all out".

Surely we can have a more variegated and sensitive account of how we might or might not express our feelings, one that would allow for individuality, irony, indirectness as well as intimacy, and that would show awareness of both the Scylla of incontinence and the Charybdis of inhibition.
