I've just tagged a new 2.1.6 #fwupd release almost a month since the last 2.1.x release. Lots of highlights at https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/releases/tag/2.1.6 and earnest testing very welcome.
In about a week I'm going to tag 2.1.7 (to collect all the post-release snags) and then push that release into RHEL 10, RHEL 9 and (gasp) RHEL 8 too.

I've just tagged a new libxmlb version with quite a few nice speedups. This is the XML query library used by #fwupd and gnome-software.

I've tagged #fwupd 2.0.21 which backports fixes for over 250 potential security issues found using various AI security scanners over the last 3 months.
The 2.1.x releases include even more fixes and hardening work, and so most users should use those instead; this release is provided for the more conservative distros.

I've just released #fwupd 2.1.4 -- which is our first post-Mythos-scan version. We knew the scan was coming and spent a lot of long days and evenings preparing for it -- as you can see from the release notes.
In that time we've been doing a lot of manual security code review, and also asking our friends Claude and Gwen for help too.
We've fixed all the Mythos-reported issues, and you should update to this version ASAP.

Dell, Lenovo ja HP liittyivät toukokuun aikana Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS) -sponsoreiksi, mikä suomeksi tarkoittaa että jatkossa ko. valmistajien kannettaville pitäisi BIOS/UEFI-päivitykset onnistua myös Linux-käyttäjiltä. Tämä on merkittävä parannus nykytilaan verrattuna. #Dell #Lenovo #HP #Linux #fwupd

#HP Is the Latest to Sponsor the #Linux Vendor #Firmware Service (#LVFS)
HP is joining Dell and Lenovo as premier sponsors of the LVFS, as part of the project’s new sustainability effort
LVFS delivers millions of firmware updates for components like BIOS/UEFI, motherboards, and peripherals. It provides metadata enabling Linux desktop and server apps to automatically locate and install hardware updates. #Fwupd is the main application used to update device firmware on Linux

You should be very wary of cheerleading any "great new Linux developments" fronted by major corporate sponsors in today's environment.

💻 Dell, Lenovo and HP boost their Linux stance 👍
After Dell and Lenovo announced the sponsorship of the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS) as being premier sponsors ($100k+ yearly) HP is also now a premier sponsor.
LVFS is an open-source firmware updating mechanism for hardware vendors to upload firmware updates to then be accessed by Linux users via tools like FWUPD.

I've just tagged a new #fwupd release: https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/releases/tag/2.1.3
There's nothing amazing here, but a few highlights are the progress bar is now buttery-smooth (moving from integer percentage to double precision) and that you now don't need to load all the crypto libs if you're just using libfwupd in your app.
There are a couple of regressions fixed too, so be sure to upgrade when your distro provides the update.
