@lj Retirement (at least for me) turns out to be quite nice. But I did somehow have to go through a full cycle of seasons to get past most of the adjustment. Another year of milder change pretty much finished the job — but note that I was fully retired, not returning to work part-time.

I really needed a win today, and finally getting my #cnc router squared away with my #chromebox #gcode sender definitely qualifies. I can finally get a project done I've been working on since the New Year. The #plan is coming together.

*Every time* I have to overhaul any kind of filing system I'm constantly reminded that Present Me is trying to place stuff so that Future Me doesn't end up thinking "What CHAOS GOBLIN thought THIS was the best way to Organise THESE things?"

I also communicate a lot to #FutureMe by write things down, doing documentation and leave inlets and shortcuts. Just to mindset: what can I do now to make it easyer für #FutureMe?

Every year, on particular day, I sit down and write and write and write. I describe what happened in my life in past 365 days. What I expect to happen in the upcoming year. My projections, hopes, wishes, resolutions. Then I hit send and said letter will be delivered back to me in exactly one Earth rotation around the Sun.

Why?

It's therapeutic. I have to go through all the photos I took during the year and see all the beautiful moments, the changes, the friends.

And when I get my letter back, I am often times shocked by the person that wrote it. It's me, but not really. It's different me. I see my past thoughts as if it was a book. I see my past wishes as (usually) partially finished TODO list. I see the unfulfilled wishes for change as extremely loud siren crying out loud for me to finally act on them.

Try it. I cry when I'm reading one. Every, single, time.

#MuscleMemory is my aim for #sewing garments. I hope that #FutureMe will be able to just whip up a pattern that I'm familiar with. It certainly worked that way when I made PJ shorts for my grand, something I'd often done for my kids when they were young.

The suspense to read this letter is killing me...even if I wrote it myself! #FutureMe

This morning I was surprised to receive the FutureMe email I wrote a year ago. I expected to get it tomorrow but was happy to read (and reply to) it today.

It's always pleasant to see that some goals were definitely met, while others are still in progress (surprisingly little progress in one case).
