Does anyone here do #SeatWeaving? I've got 6 old Ikea chairs like these, and the Danish paper cord on them is starting to fray. I LOVE them and they are discontinued. Trying to figure out if it's folly for a beginner to attempt to cut off and reweave. The curve looks daunting and I'm not sure which way to start warping (front to back versus left to right).

Freehand does not work, measuring does for a good shape on the seat foam. Almost ran out of foam for the backs. 3 inch buffer on the seat cushion, 1.5 inches on the back. #furniture #furniturerestoration

Ordered upholstery fabric for the free Danish teak(?) or walnut furniture. Now to figure out the proper surface treatment for this (teak oil if teak I assume). Wood is dusty but in good condition, no repairs necessary. Haven't had time to clean it yet. #furniturerestoration #furniture

Anyway, bottom cushions are 18x17 each, top cushions are 11x17 each... so need 56 inches x 17 inches of foam. Not sure if I need "soft" or "medium" for a chair. Will be about $45 from Sailrite for high density indoor cushion foam. I am going to say "soft" as the "medium" I bought for the last chair was actually kinda hard vs. the original. #furniturerestoration #furniture

Snagged a random possible chair restoration project (free) down the block. Tough one, no existing cushions. But I still have foam and vinyl for a chair or two here. #furniturerestoration

Oooh, last tip, which I did not do for the last 5 chairs, but should have:
WINDEX (or similar) IS YOUR FRIEND
One of the hardest parts of these chairs is sliding the edges in and out. I wrestled with them using muscle power on the last chairs.
I finally wised up and sprayed a ton of window cleaner in the grooves getting it off and putting it back on, and it slid on and off like it was greased with butter!
(the windex evaporates or can be rinsed later).

Hands for rent made: restoration of seven wooden chairs for a befriended place. Work terribly long but rewarding and having much less strain on my body than expected (but oh, you should see my back muscles now). Chairs were sanded to remove old yellowed varnish and caked-on dirt, then polished and revarnished. Could do that over again.
