  1. Todays' #3dprinted part: an exhaust elbow for a side channel blower. The rubber gasket was cut with a Siser cutting machine.

It could get a bit toasty, but the material should be able to handle that. The part does not pose a safety risk if it fails, anyway.

  2. Nine months later, I finally posted the knife block tilting base to Printables. The delay was because I didn't want to post photos of our messy kitchen. So I propped up a cutting board and used it as a backstop.

  4. This disk drive has horizontal screw holes. Here's how I modeled them. They have four crush ribs and a maximum overhang of just over 45°.

Tagging @rahix because he's The Man of functional prints.

EDIT: also tagging @amd because he's done some work on this.

  6. @macberg a subcommunity you can definitely check out for this is #functionalprint - not explicitely shunning that other kind of printing, but it is about something else.

although the iterations you often go through to get something to work are also consuming quite a bit of filament.

  7. I also used my 3d printer in this project to make some guides for drilling perfectly centered and straight holes for dowels. #3dprint #functionalprint #diy

  8. @rahix Are you thinking about adding a section on alignment pegs in your functional printing guide?

This is the way I use them. The parts are held together by screws, and the pegs make it easy to get the screws aligned and started. I can also keep the parts from being assembled the wrong way around by using asymmetric pegs. These parts have significant taper because the screws create the final alignment.

  10. Another day, another functional print.

Spousey got a Thermapen® and wanted a place to store it safely.

    So I printed these. #FunctionalPrint

  16. @debby

I’ve been very happy with the Prusa MK3s I built from a kit several years ago. If you buy a used one it is very easy to get parts and running advice for it.

Here’s something cool I made with it. These 60 mm diameter fillers I designed in FreeCAD have 1 mm pitch threads. I was blown away that I could print such fine detail so precisely.

  22. I measured the door frame on the right and designed the ramp to fit around it. But of course the frame isn't symmetric, and the left end doesn't fit. That end is going to have an unpleasant encounter with Mr. Dremel...

  24. I am printing a ramp to help our robot vacuum get over the threshold into the laundry room. Three of four sections are printed, plus a couple of test prints in black. I'm trying to use layer lines as a design element. N.B., the herringbones are not parallel -- they're straight at the edges and diagonal in the middle. I got the effect by lofting from a flat edge to a shallow sawtooth and back.

  26. Yet another kitchen thingie from the printer. This one is stone simple, but I like the way it came out. It just stores ZipLoc lids in a stack in the cupboard. Has a little handle so you can pull it out.

I published it to Printables just now.

  28. Thrilled to share a timeless 3D print design: a soap holder with a charming heart motif ❤️! This elegant piece is printer-friendly on nearly any setup. With an outer diameter of around 100mm and a height of 18mm, it’s just the right size for a bar of soap. Take a look at all the design details and see it printed here: printables.com/model/76155 🌸

  29. Here's another little household item. This sponge basket taxed my Fusion360 abilities; all the shapes are Bézier curves and lofts. But it fits this weirdly shaped sink perfectly.

(N.B., the holes on the bottom are along Bézier curves too, and their edges are not parallel.)

  31. I expanded on the pickle jar lid and made something to hold it in the right spot and orientation on the inner cover of the bee hive. I also made a plug with the 8 mesh when not feeding. The plan is to remove the permanent screen because I think the tiny space between it and the feeder is causing them issues. Yes this is a bit ridiculous.

  35. Modified one of the printed bands that hold the candle molds together so it can go on the open end to hold the wick. Just did it in prusa slicer. Made this one for the 'hive' candle, and scaled one band and wick holder for the hex mold too.

I judged the center cylinder by the sliced results to get my center outer circle centered pretty close. It's a 3mm hole and 6mm cylinder slicing with about .45 line widths.
