A while back I mentioned that the local #Aldi had chip RFID readers that were in the middle of the touchpad. This meant that as you tapped the card in the middle of the screen, once it had a successful read, the screen would go back to a screen that had OK/Cancel, so if you did not quickly and carefully pull your card away from screen you could cancel the transaction. They have since changed that screen. #UX #UI #FunctionalDesign

Ran out of time for a beauty shot of my 3D-printed hair brush, so I crafted this render for now.
https://www.printables.com/model/677846
The actual printed brush boasts a surprisingly sleek look, closely resembling a traditional brush from a distance. It might not be a luxury item, but with its rounded bristle tips, it's both functional and comfortable.

“Which is less expensive: cloud-based infrastructure-as-a-service, or maintaining our own servers on-prem?” This is the wrong question.
Don’t decide on cost.
When choosing cloud versus on prem, choose based on the business use case, functionality, and security. Then pay for the best design, either way.
Does your business have unpredictable swings in size? Do you need to be able to add more servers rapidly and then shed those servers after the rush is over? Then cloud services make sense.
Is your data in a high-risk and well-known category, frequently/constantly under attack? Then maintaining your own servers with access exclusively through dedicated data circuits makes sense.
There are other design options, including hybrid architectures.
Information processing, storage, and access should be designed based on core needs, not cost.

I like the blog post behind this and how to design complex pipelines as a stack of generators.
