"Really saying something" - Bananarama and Fun Boy Three
They made a perfectly decent showing, and it got completely lost in the crowd shuffle. Someone spoke last week about Bananarama being a bit shambolic, and *this* is why we love them.

"Our Lips Are Sealed" is a song co-written by #JaneWiedlin, guitarist of #theGoGos, and #TerryHall, singer of #theSpecials and #FunBoyThree. It was first recorded by the Go-Go's as the opening track on their first album, #BeautyAndTheBeat (1981), and was released as their debut single in June 1981. The single eventually reached the top three in Australia and Canada as well as the top 20 in the United States. Originally written and performed with three verses.

"It ain't what you do it's the way that you do it" - Fun Boy Three and Bananarama
The Fun Boy Three drop in to plug their spot on "Round table", Radio 1's singles review show. That's after Newsbeat at 5.45 tomorrow.
Their video shows the things you can do in the London subways...
The groups had been in the studio two weeks earlier, the Nanas had been working on their dance routine.

The Fun Boy Three, The Fun Boy Three, 1982 on Chrysalis
The Fun Boy Three (Terry Hall, Neville Staple, and Lynval Golding) were a spin-off / outgrowth of The Specials. This was their debut, self-titled album with guests Bananarama on four tracks, including a cover of “It Ain’t What You Do (It’s The Way That You Do it),”
Also features “The Lunatics (Have Taken Over The Asylum)” which I love. The album cover back side presents the credits like a movie poster for a film shot in glorious stereo FunboyScope: “Gasp, Wonder, and Thrill to the Sound of the 80s.”
There’s a great BBC documentary—2 Tone The Sound of Coventry—which features lots of interviews with Hall and Staples, though it is more focused on The Specials.
My copy—via A1 records in NYC—is an early 80s Terre Haute pressing which was sealed, with the original hype sticker.

"Summertime" - The Fun Boy Three
Their take on George and Ira Gershwin's jazz standard. Is it only a year since "Ghost town"? So much has changed for Terry and the band.

Song of the Day - No 495
FUN BOY THREE - THE TUNNEL OF LOVE
Released in 1983, "The Tunnel of Love" is a pop gem with melancholic undertones. It was the second single from Fun Boy Three's acclaimed album 'Waiting'. The song's bittersweet lyrics and catchy melody helped solidify the band's reputation as masters of sophisticated new wave.

Just heard the very sad news that Terry Hall of #TheSpecials #FunBoyThree #Colourfield - and a true working class #antiracist hero - has died. Such an amazing singer who sang about real people and real issues with a rare honesty heard in so many of his songs - from pure joy to utter sorrow. A sensitive, shy, talented and unique person
#RIP to a total original. Rest in peace #Rudeboy -

December 19th, 2022: So gutted to hear about the death of Terry Hall. He was a special one. He was 63.
Today’s soundtrack: The Specials, Fun Boy Three, and the Colourfield
Today’s quote: “If you were 12 in 1979, the Specials were easy peasy lemon squeezy the greatest band on the planet. If you’re 42 in 2009, nothing has changed.” - Mark Lamarr, 2009
May his memory be a blessing,
