Was looking at my most-recent electric bill. Was logged in to gather account information so I could maybe set up my Home Assistant to chart my electrical usage. Looking at the bill, my first reaction was, "what the fuck are all these line-items"?? I mean, in my mind, a "regular" bill (i.e., anyone that's not using Solar or wind to export energy back to the grid) ought only contain, "here's how many kWh you used and here's the ¢/kWH rate" and "here's the taxes". We have solar, so having an "exported to grid" and "net-usage" line-item makes sense. But, it looks like Dominion Power is one of the ever-increasing number of "you pay a monthly fee for the privilege of being hooked to the grid" utilities. As annoying as that is, what the fuck are the "generation", "transmission" and "fuel" charges broken out under the "Electrical Supply Service" box???

Also, does a "transmission" charge imply that, if my house is 10mi further from the generation facility, that I pay more than someone 10mi closer? If not, then why break it out? I mean, if it's a fixed-cost, then it's notionally just part of what SHOULD BE a simple ¢/kWH derived-value.

And "deferred fuel cost charge"? #Dafuq is that??

And, while we're at it, a hearty #FuckYou to my state and county for taxing my usage of electricity. Do y'all apply equivalent/proportionate taxes to the datacenters that caused a 23% increase in my ¢/kWH this past January? I mean, I had less than 1000kWh this past month. If a given datacenter is rated at 1gW, does that mean they pay at least +720x in taxes compared to what I do? If not, then, "why the fuck not???"
