CW: Pride events in the UK; fears and defiance
We'd recently been feeling like we wouldn't feel save going to any Pride events in the UK this year, due to all the anti-trans stuff that's battered our mental health 🥺
However, we're increasingly thinking that it's more important than ever that, if possible, we at least attend London Trans+ Pride this year :TransHeart:
It's not that we think we'll feel especially safe doing so, or that we'll even really enjoy the event. We'll enjoy seeing friends, if we can catch up with them, and we know we'll find it too loud and overstimulating, so we'll need to prepare massively.
The reason we think that we need to attend is to add to the numbers and to show solidarity and support, especially to those who cannot attend for any number of valid reasons.
We don't really want to do Trans Pride Brighton again, as it's a bit of a trek and not a pleasant route, and no others are really within a reasonable travel distance / time for us to go and come back same day.
We feel we've gotta do something though as long as we've physically able to, even if it's a mental struggle.

As you're almost-certainly already aware, access to GAHT is increasingly being restricted, being outright banned, or otherwise unavailableb to many trans+ people under 18 in many places across the world 😔
For example, the UK had already banned new prescriptions of GnRH agonists (a type of puberty blocker) for any trans+ person under 18, and is now genuinely considering banning all private GAHT prescriptions too 🤬
GAHT is literally lifesaving medication for many trans+ people :BlahajHuggingTransHeart:
Without it, many trans+ people under 18 will struggle even more with mental health, and many will not make it to adulthood 😭
If you are a trans+ person under 18, or are a supportive family member or friend of someone who is, please start to make contingency plans now for the worst-case scenarios 🥺
We highly recommend bookmarking the below website and making copies of all relevant info and links in case it gets taken down:
- HRT4All
- Before the site will let you in, it'll ask you to answer a quiz, after which it'll create a cookie called "quiz_passed" with a value of "true".
- The website seems to have intermittent issues with the quiz, so if you encounter any issues, delete all cookies for the website and reload.

Every day, staff across TDSB support student achievement and well-being, and work hard to create inclusive spaces where every student feels valued, seen and empowered.
As you may be aware, there are demonstrations scheduled to take place in our city this week which, in some past cases, have fostered inflammatory, transphobic, and hateful behaviours against members of 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
Ahead of these planned demonstrations, we want to make it unequivocally clear that TDSB stands with our trans, Two-Spirit and non-binary students, staff and families, and we support everyone's human rights and expression of gender.
Harassment, discrimination and hate have no place in TDSB. In our schools, we do not tell students who they should be, but welcome them as they are. We do this by focusing on their academic learning and fostering feelings of belonging as expected in the Ontario curriculum and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
“The Ontario Human Rights Code (Code) protects everyone from discrimination and harassment based on numerous grounds, including disability, gender identity and expression, race, and religion. In schools, following the Code means that every student has the right to a learning environment free from discrimination, harassment, or other expressions of hatred — an environment where everyone feels safe to learn, thrive, and be themselves”. - (OHRC, Statement on Anti-Hate, June 2023).
We know that news of the planned demonstrations is upsetting, and students, staff and families may require additional support. TDSB’s social work department is ready to support where needed. Students and/or families should reach out to their school Principal or another staff member at their school to speak with someone about the planned demonstrations, and/or the impact of transphobia and homophobia more broadly. Staff should speak with their principal/manager or reach out directly to the Board’s Employee and Family Assistance Program.

One took place last week after the disgusting fashy #TerrorTots held their June 9 nonsense outside Ottawa schools (repeated, less "successfully" yesterday at a Drag Queen Story Hour in the Arts Centre).

The graffiti, which has since been removed, included swastikas, hateful comments about several groups of people including Black, Indigenous, Amish, Chinese, 2SLGBTQ+ and people with Down syndrome, along with other subjects.A window was also smashed and the door of a portable was broken, although it is not believed that anyone actually entered the school or portables, said the board.
“Fortunately, this was discovered by staff before the start of the school day and the graffiti was covered. Students were not exposed to the graffiti and staff kept all students away from the area when they arrived at school and throughout the school day.”

On June 9, protesters supporting anti-“gender ideology” activist “Chris Elston clashed with counter-protesters on Broadview Avenue, where there are three schools: Nepean High School, Broadview Public School and Notre Dame High School.All three schools had to adjust their schedules because of the potential chaos, and the OCDSB asked the public not to attend.
The street was blocked by police and five people were arrested, although no charges were laid. Elston, known as “Billboard Chris,” said the protests were among the largest gatherings of their type on his experience and the counter-protest made the event “go viral.”
