More podcast thoughts: #Quantitude, my favorite #statistics & #dataanalysis #podcast, interviewed a pretty important guy in the field, with field-altering contributions stretching back decades. At the end of the interview he went off on AI: he's "writing" a biography of someone he admires using AI prompts. He's retired but dedicating less time to music (a love of his) because he's so excited about using AI to build stats-related tools. He had a couple of statements about how #AI can do harm "in some situations," but then just kept cheerleading the glorious new future #genAI is bringing us.
To their credit, the hosts didn't engage at all. They turned back to his professional contributions a couple of times in this spiel. Of course, the hosts did put the interview out there (note: pretty sure they make no money from this; there are no ads or sponsors). That might be because they didn't have the moral fortitude to tell him they weren't going to platform his ideas, because they don't disagree with those ideas (or disagree about that between the two of them), because they wanted the world to see for themselves what stupid ideas this guy has, or for other reasons.
I was unsurprised, when the guest said he loved #SciFi, that Heinlein was one of the two authors he mentioned. Loving Heinlein's work doesn't mean you're an asshole, but his work is very asshole-friendly.
