So, the DOJ's recent memo re: the ADA's integration mandate isn't getting nearly enough attention (of course not... it has to do with disability rights).
The basic gist is that the mandate says that disabled people should be integrated into their communities unless it's completely unfeasible, and that, in turn, is used as the base justification for home care and community care to be mandated over nursing homes or other forms of institutionalization. The added side effect is that home/community care is cheaper (costs tax payers less) and results in overall better outcomes than the alternative.
The memo is an invitation for red states to stop paying for this kind of care, which will inevitably lead to law suits that will reach the SCOTUS. You can see where this is going, right? This is the first step in MAGA's/MAHA's desire to take people like me out of our homes. Remember - the OG Nazis did the same thing and tortured and killed 200,000+ disabled people.
This should absolutely be raising alarm bells, but because the disabled are always (intentionally) out of sight, out of mind (despite being the largest marginalized community), no one seems to give a shit.

If the general attitude is that your life is ruined and you're better off dead etc.... some people can't get past that. Can't accept, adapt, reorient, find a different life path.
And if you're told your body is gross now and you're a burden and nobody will ever want you, you can react by rejecting everybody else first.
It's enough to make a person bitter. But it isn't the polio itself or the disfiguring accident or whatever and when families and communities buy the ableism and unthinkingly put 2 and 2 together and get 5, it's stigmatizing. You eventually wind up with this trope of the bitter, evil criminal in the Bond movie or the self-sacrificing, romantically suicidal one in that unspeakable eugenicist novel and the rest of us get stuck battling the stereotypes.
Some of us will lose that fight.
The inspirational President is also a problem but that's another rant for another day 😆

Just talked to someone who's wife works in a Covid ward at a local hospital. This new strain of Covid according this person's wife is as bad as the first strain we had in 2020. Do your research but this could be bad!!!!!!
