In March, Fender instruments won a default judgement in Düsseldorf, which assigned them artistic copyright to the shape of the Stratocaster.
Now they're sending Cease-and-desist letters to DOZENS of companies that make a strat-shaped guitar, demanding they (a) immediately stop selling their products, and (b) destroy all existing inventory.
This will DESTROY the boutique industry. When faced with "destroy your inventory or pay $250k per instrument," instrument makers - craftsmen - will be forced to close their doors.
They already lost their trademark protection on the strat after letting people copy it for 70 years.
Boycott Fender. No guitars, no basses, no software, interfaces, strings, picks, or merch. Make their new CEO *HURT* for this decision. Make the company falter and bend, at least until they stop this nonsense.
And if you want a strat, buy a competitor's version. It'll be better.
