Can someone help me confirm that #YouTube is showing geo-targeted ads in previews for their links when you put them in things like instant messengers?

I have confirmed the ads are a thing, just wondering about whether it geolocates or if it's random ads.

Chromecast said "Not connected to the internet", rendering it unusuable.

I drop all external DNS (and DNS-over-TLS) requests on my network.

Google (along with Chinese IoT spyware, Samsung, and others) now try to use their hardcoded DNS servers.

My network now fools them all, they think they get a response from their DNS, but it's really my PiHole that answers! NAT + Masquerading FTW!

Just a little reminder, Firefox is adding more ad settings to it's preferences that default to on, and there isn't a way to opt-out, nor does Mozilla notify you that things are changing.

I caught Firefox resolving ads[.]mozilla[.]org, so make sure you go through your settings and disable the new ones.

I already hated Internet ads with a burning passion. Now pretty much every ad is AI garbage with ridiculous images and repetitive clickbait titles. Just utter trash using up an enormous amount of bandwidth.

I’ve got ad blockers on my desktop, I need to find good ones for my phone and tablet.

As a reminder: The latest version of Firefox opted you into their so-called privacy preserving attribution and it's up to you to opt out.

Relatedly: What alternatives are left? Firefox's multi-account containers are cookie isolation are hugely useful features for me. I suppose I could look for an un-Mozilla'd Firefox in the the same way people prefer un-Googled Chromium.

Know what will? Use an AdBlocker. Encourage everyone you know to use an AdBlocker.
