TIL there's a Bluetooth standard called FTMS which does exactly something I've always wanted - control and monitoring of your treadmill (or other exercise equipment) from a remote device.
Why is this important? It means you no longer have to be tied to a specific fitness app or service when you buy a higher end treadmill. For me that's iFit for my NordicTrack treadmill and they want up to $40 a month from me. Others like Peleton are similarly priced.
