Bleakly amusing to me that 4 years into Russia attacking Europe and using energy to blackmail us, 🇪🇺 electricity distribution grids are paying infomercials to ask for large-scale investments in ageing infrastructure:

"Distribution grids will require EUR 730 billion investment by 2040 and a significant share of this will be dedicated specifically to resilience measures"

...but we can't have eurobonds because #FrugalsInTrenches still think I'll spend it all on booze and twinks.

So that's something to fight over in the next EU budget negotiation this year and the next. (Where 🇩🇪 is also refusing to #EndRebates from the Thatcher era, so not sure how the current 🇩🇪 government squares that, maybe it will push the other #FrugalsInTrenches to quit being penny-pinchers). We do have EU budget negotiations coming up, so I'm looking forward to seeing their proposals to triple the EU budget, do eurobonds and end rebates to the EU budget for Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium.#FrugalsInTrenches

Beyond air defence and munition for Ukraine, I would venture an uneducated guess that IRIS2 is probably among the top 3 priorities at which Europe should throw covid vaccine-levels of funding to bring its launch forward. Can't wait to see if there are any #FrugalsInTrenches left.

Portugal machte auf die Anfälligkeit aufmerksam und schlug vor, in den Schutz von Unterseekabeln zu investieren. Deutschland und die "frugals" klopften ihnen auf die Schulter und weigerten sich, dafür Geld auszugeben. #FrugalsInTrenches
