After the end of that meeting I spent an afternoon and evening with collaborators from the University of Queensland.
The next day, a Sunday, I met with two fantastic local birders, and they showed me amazing birds I would never had spotted on my own, including the invisible yet gorgeous tawny frogmouth.

Tawny Frogmouth

I don’t actually have any owls, #Superb or otherwise for #SuperbOwl celebrations, however I can proffer a Tawny Frogmouth that was unwise enough to perch close to the back verandah on New Year’s Eve a few years back. The first shot is available light, the second I was rude and used flash.

I completely missed it at the time, but the Tawny Frogmouth chick appears to have been swooped by a Sacred Kingfisher and then reacted very strongly to it. It's incredible what you can miss if your attention lapses. #frogmouth #tawnyfrogmouth #wildoz
