Essex Police: we didn't advise any candidates not to attend the count
Tice: It was Farage's own security that identified the threat, not the police
Interviewer: So you'll share information about the threat with the police then?
Tice: No, we don't trust the police on security matters.
Er...
Why not just come clean and admit that he doesn't know where Clacton is?

When you hear the media spinning the #ClactonByElection as a "resounding mandate" for Farage, remember that he won on a low turnout (44%). You'll hear the media report that 63% of voters voted for him, but only 28% of the electorate voted for him.
Oh, and also, his only credible opponent was a man dressed as a bin.

Er, no. It's not very confusing. The stuff about a security threat is obviously just a made up excuse (especially as the police have confirmed they didn't advise any candidates to stay away).
The real reason is that the #FrogFacedGrifter can't be arsed to look up on a map where Clacton is.

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago he was encouraging his thugs to come out onto the street and riot? Didn't see him getting arrested for that.

When the #FrogFacedGrifter first announced he was going to stand in a by-election and that the whole point of it was that he would be standing "against the establishment", I mocked him.
Well, it turns out that his main opponent in the by-election is going to be an actual Count, and you don't get much more establishment than that.
Boy do I feel silly now.

OK, so the #FrogFacedGrifter may still be the odds-on favourite to win the Clacton by-election, but the 5:1 odds on Count Binface are not all that long. Looks like there is at least a reasonable possibility that the good people of Clacton could give us all the biggest laugh we've had for years.

I seriously doubt that the #FrogFacedGrifter has ever had an honourable motive in his entire life.
Unless you count patriotism. And accept that the country towards which he feels a patriotic duty is Russia.

It costs money to run a by-election.
I think there should be a rule that if an MP stands down and triggers one and stands at that by-election, just for a bit of attention-seeking, then he should pay for it himself.
No doubt one of his dodgy donors would pay for it anyway.

If a left wing politician made a speech whipping up outrage about something, and then a bunch of left wing thugs went on a riot the same evening, injuring several police officers and causing considerable damage to property, I think the right wing media would be totally losing their shit about it.
And the politician who stirred it all up would probably be facing criminal charges for inciting violence.
But the #FrogFacedGrifter always gets a free pass on such things from our media, doesn't he?

If mental gymnastics were an Olympic sport, #NadhimZahawi would surely be a hot favourite for the gold medal.
Watching him interviewed on Sky News this morning trying to argue in the very same interview that the #FrogFacedGrifter absolutely needed £5 million to pay for his security because of this hostility that politicians face from the public, and that it's fine to offer to buy a pint for someone who swears aggressively at politicians, was really quite a show.

@Angelina He totally is. It's very hard to imagine what he would possibly be doing differently from what he's currently doing if his stated mission were to make sure that the #FrogFacedGrifter becomes PM after the next election.

@MacNaBracha I love the subtle differences in the way English is spoken north and south of the border. Down here in England, we refer to him as the #FrogFacedGrifter, but actually I think the Scottish version of that has a great ring to it.

@Nicovel0 @johnelalamo I really have no plans to ever leave the UK, but if the #FrogFacedGrifter wins the next election and things start to seriously go south, then I might have to rethink that.
Spain is definitely a country I would consider. Also France or Ireland. Maybe one or two others. Not sure really, my thoughts on this subject have been a bit hypothetical so far.

If I were in charge, any politician who was elected after breaking election law would immediately lose their seat and be required to pay back any salary they were paid since the election.
And then barred from standing for election for another 10 years.
And have to do 400 hours community service.
Maybe in the #FrogFacedGrifter's case cleaning the loos in an asylum hotel would be appropriate?

It's always the ones you least suspect, isn't it?
Only allegations at this stage, nothing proven, but what really pisses me off is that even if proven you know that the only thing that's going to happen will be a token fine that will be pocket change for Reform's Russian backers.
There is no meaningful disincentive for any well-funded political party to break election law.

As far as I can see, Farage's mate has got 10½ years in the slammer for doing what pretty much every politician does… determining their opinions based on money. In Gill's case, the Russians' money, but in the general case it's whoever's donated to their constituency/party or offered them a nice non-exec directorship after leaving politics. It stinks.
