When describing the Fediverse, I prefer "Your timeline, your decision" or "Your timeline, your choice" over "You are the algorithm". Reason is simple. The Fediverse is about people, so we should focus on people. Not on systems or black boxes that use algorithms. You need to understand that you are responsible for your timeline, by making your individual choices. That includes blocking, muting, reporting. Together, through these individual decisions, we form the Fediverse. #FridayThoughts

Does anyone else pre-game, but for food instead of alcohol? For example, if I know I'm going to go out to eat with friends and it's a little out of my budget, I just eat at home then get a snack or an appetizer at the meeting place. It's getting costly to go out to eat so I'm in the mindset of ehhh I still want to hangout but not spend so much money, but I also don't want to do the same free stuff we've been doing. :dragnpizza:

People always say, "make sure your investments are diverse." But honestly, MSCI All-World and FTSE All-World are so incredibly limited. You’re literally getting exposure to just ONE planet's economy. Talk about extreme home bias!
Where is the real diversification? I want an MSCI Milky-Way! Give me that FTSE All-Universe! I need Andromeda emerging markets, Alpha Centauri real estate, and Martian terraforming infrastructure to balance out my terrestrial risk.
Until my broker figures out interplanetary asset allocation, my portfolio remains dangerously concentrated in "Earth."

Your feed is a digital container. It should feel as refreshing as a walk through the forest. If you’re scrolling past constant pitches, you have permission to curate.
I’ve spent the last year letting go of what doesn't serve my nervous system—from old roles to connections that feel like friction rather than flow.
When you stop engaging with energy-draining content, you create negative space. That space is where you invite in ideas that align with your values.
We should add to each other, providing peace rather than just promotions. When a connection is purely transactional, the cost is high.
You lose bandwidth and the potential for real, two-way conversation.
Keeping these broadcast connections clutters your feed and pulls you from Glide back into Grip.
I just disconnected from a contact who used every DM to pitch me. If you have someone like this, consider this your sign to free yourself. Hitting unfollow isn't personal—it is self-respect.

Long before #LLMs, two of the biggest uses for #AI were (and still are):
To show us ads we don't want to see (on the web)
To block ads we don't want to see (in email)
Funny how so many uses of AI are to make things we don't want.
Maybe in the future we'll burn a bunch of gigawatts with the ad-blocking AIs fighting the ad-injecting AIs, all to capture the attention of humans.
Or, who am I kidding, they'll probably be fighting to capture the attention of agentic AIs.

Some of the most important work you did this week will never be seen.
“Quiet work shapes lasting strength.” — (Donald Hornsby)
The conversations that required restraint.
The decisions made with care.
The effort no one applauded.Roots grow quietly before strength becomes visible.
Before you rush into the weekend, pause.
What quiet work are you grateful you stayed faithful to this week?
Deep Roots.

Remembering John Robert Parker Ravenscroft, OBE,who died 25th October 2004
"Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, 'Listen, mate, *life* has surface noise."

I am feeling rather melancholy today. I am rolling off a contract, and my last day will be October 17, 2025.
I am applying for jobs and attempting to be positive, but right now, I feel a deep sense of disappointment.

We will lick them on Monday.
