  1. "On waves of love my heart is breaking
And stranger still, my self control I can't rely on anymore
New tide, surprise, my world is changing
Within this frame an ocean swells behind the smile, I know it well

    Beneath a lover's moon I'm waiting
I am the pilot of the storm, adrift in pleasure I may drown
I built this ship, it is my making
And furthermore, my self control I can't rely on anymore

    I know why
    I know why

Crazy on a ship of fools
Crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around, back to my loving ground
    Oh, no, oh, no

Who claims that no man is an island?
While I land up in jeopardy, more distant from you by degrees
I walk this shore in isolation
And at my feet eternity draws ever sweeter plans for me

    I know why
    I know why

  2. The Warriors
    by #SnottyNoseRezKids

"I don't rock 'n' roll, nah, I stand and rock (Standin' Rock, yi)
I think there's something in the water, here's some food for thought
Is it really a felony for wanting my water clean?
Expect us not to rage against the machine
We ain't movin' like Rosa P, nope
You know why, 'cause this dreamcatcher's catchin' your pipe dream
    Look what happened to Flint
No disrespect, but the same happens to village kids that sip water from the tap
And they're dyin' to live from the cancer it gives
Where's the state of emergency for them?
Act like you know the story
    Broken treaties, unholy matrimony
One nation under the creator, homie
    All my relations, mni wiconi"

  3. "Wooden soldiers storm through burning, buildings on the top floor
Lives the zoo king's neckties, preventing them from breathing
Oh, it's such a fuzzy feeling
Oh, it's such a fuzzy feeling making plans"

  4. This is one of my favorite #ModestMouse songs. I haven't heard them perform it since 2005! So needed!

"Woke up this morning, and it seemed to me
That every night turns out to be
A little bit more like Bukowski
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read
    But God, who'd wanna be
God, who'd wanna be such an asshole
    God, who'd wanna be
God, who'd wanna be such an asshole..."

  5. "A wild pack of family dogs came runnin' through the yard one day
My father got his gun, shot it up, they ran away ok
A wild pack of family dogs came runnin' through the yard
And as my own dog ran away with
them, I didn't say much of anything at all
A wild pack of family dogs came runnin' through the yard
As my little sister played, the dogs took her away
And I guess she was eaten up ok, yeah she was eaten up ok
My mother's cryin' blood dust now
My dad he quit his job today, well I guess he was fired but that's ok
And I'm sittin' outside my mudlake,
waiting for the pack to take me away
And right after I die the dogs
start floating up towards the glowing sky
Now they'll receive their rewards, now they will receive their rewards"

  6. So, until I get #PeerTube figured out, I'll be using YT for a while longer. And to commemorate everyone standing up to #Fascism, my goal tomorrow (Friday) is to upload a rare version of #WorldParty's #TheBalladOfTheLittleMan that was made into an "age-restricted" video (which requires YT registration to view). If that doesn't work, I might try another platform (Vimeo or DailyMotion), but I'm sure due the controversial nature of the video, whatever platform I use, it probably won't stay up long. If I'm successful, I'll post the link using the hashtags below.

  7. Thanks to a recommendation from @imalcolm I've been listening all week to Technicians Of The Sacred from the mighty #ozrictentacles.

I haven't listened to them in years - my last purchase of theirs was 1993's Jurassic Shift - but it's great to see they're still making great music.

  8. Whew, we made it through the lows. Now for a few highs to wrap up #Extremes #FridayNightJukebox #Music

No, this is not a band created by Wes Anderson for one of his identical movies. This is an actual band that existed in the Sixties. That album cover shows what it would be like if some accountants started a rock band. Too extreme?

🎶I slew de Midland Bank🎶 Timeless dub from #LeeScratchPerry and #DubSyndicate with #AdrianSherwood at the controls. This is one of the cream of the crop of #OnU LPs. 🎶Lee Scratch Perry on the wire🎶 What a gem of an album

  10. I went looking for a link to Missy Elliott’s All N My Grill on my subscription streamer. Really digging listening to it again but then an American male rapper starts in English! Big Boi? Where’s MC Solaar en français? Turns out I had a European version of the CD back in the day. 😆 That’s a global music empire tailored to local circumstance. Well played. Here’s the European version.

  11. There was an intense huddle at a table in the college canteen one morning in First Year. When I sat down it turned out it was De La Soul’s Three Feet High and Rising on vinyl was being passed around reverently, the outer and inner sleeve being pored over. That LP cover though: punk and hippie and very Hip Hop. Something very new had arrived. 🌼

  12. The Beasties’ Sure Shot is one of my all time favourite tracks. Their run of albums - Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, and Ill Communication - is kind of my college years soundtracked, from leaving school through to a summer in the US on student work visa. Good times with the Beasties.

  13. One of the college mates I was living with in Berlin, had Ice-T on the stereo all the time. As a Metaller he also had the new Bodycount album. There was Hip Hop and Head Banging (I had a lot of hair then). He’s died since and Ice-T always reminds me of that place then.

  14. My favourite Arrested Development track is Revolution from the Malcolm X soundtrack. Speech’s social media presence is one of the few things I miss from the Other Site. I found this more recent live version on YouTube and it is a track meant to be engaged with live.

  15. I've got a suggestion for this week's #FridayNightJukebox (or #JukeboxFridayNight as the case may be). Last week's #TruthTellers theme brought out a whole bunch of awesome tracks, but as some people pointed out, some of the most important truths can be not only inconvenient, but downright traumatic. So many of them tended towards a downer vibe.

To balance that out, how about we make this Friday's theme 'songs that always cheer me up'? I've got a whole bunch of good ones in mind...

  16. Someone pointed out that a lot of people use #JukeboxFridayNight for the #FridayNightJukebox event in the verse. Late last night, I posted a whole bunch of #TruthTellers songs under the latter tag. Check 'em out!

  17. 'The Perverted Dance (Cut the Balls)':
    piped.video/watch?v=80X0pbCV_t

This is Slovenian satirist Klemen Slakonja's hilarious homage to his countryman, the eccentric Marxist philosopher Slavoj Zizek. Even if you're completely unfamiliar with Zizek's work and the talking points the song parodies - which have become online memes in themselves - the video is worth it for Slakonja's bang-on mimicry alone. Plus the flash mob breaking into the Cut the Balls dance? Gold.

    #FridayNightJukebox #TruthTellers

  18. OK, I know I said 10 songs, but honestly, with so many epic #TruthTellers still unmentioned, how can I not throw in a couple of bonus tracks?

    'Permanent Holiday' by Mike Love:

    piped.video/watch?v=fU7hZ3smj0

You've probably seen this. I'd be surprised if there's anyone with net access of any kind who hasn't. But I just love the impassioned cry for people to reject the "corporate Babylon" and its "manipulation games", and the incredible musical talent on display by both musicians.
