  2. “Do you ever transform into a man?” #Freyr asked casually. Freyja didn't bat an eye, her reply just as casual:

"Of course. Or just parts of one."

    Her brother grinned widely.

    "I should have known."

"You really should have," #Freyja agreed. “It’s one of the first things anyone would use their powers for, right?”

  11. #Freyja is the sister of #Freyr and the daughter of #Njörd, the sea god. She is the #goddess of #love, #beauty, #fertility, #war, and #death. She rides a chariot pulled by two cats and owns a cloak of falcon feathers. She has a necklace of amber beads called #Brísingamen, which she obtained by sleeping with four dwarves. She is the master of #seiðr, a form of #magic that can alter the #future and the minds of others.

  15. Had a cold but fun day of #climbing in #Freyr in #belgium last Sunday. This is the #Jeunesse sector. Spot the climber (near the top) in the first picture!
    See alt-text for details.

  16. Today's #climbing crag was #Freyr in #Belgium again. The limestone was still a bit wet in places from the rain over the last days, but it wasn't too bad. And the #slackline ppl were having a blast as well, it seems.

  17. My poor pictures of #Freyr really don't do justice to the beautiful place it is.
To get a proper sense of the place, have a look at the images in this article instead: thecragjournal.com/2022/12/01/

  18. Yesterday's #climbing crag: #Freyr in #Belgium. Freyr is the largest crag in Belgium with more than 600 routes graded from 3a all the way up to 8c+.
These limestone cliffs (up to 120m high!) bordering the river #Meuse have been climbed since 1930. As a consequence the holds on popular routes are very polished. Bolt distances can be large too, so climbing here requires both physical and mental strength.
That said: Freyr is a beautiful, almost magical place.

  19. CW: Do Not Open - Bread Inside

If you made, or are going to make, some bread today to celebrate Lughnasadh/Lammas, I would love to hear about it!

This is my special little loaf for Freyr.

  20. I'm an ecologist and having a career in that field has made a huge mark on my polytheist practice. I know pagans tend to be a bit crunchy by nature, but my education and training inform the way I see the world and that includes my religious ideology.

I'm not living in ancient or even modern Iceland, or Sweden, or Poland, or Scotland. I tend to focus on local plant and animal life and how they tie into my views on gods related to fertility, the land, and the seasons. Bird migrations inform my shifts in seasonal practice. I see #Freyja in my local red-tailed hawks. #Óðinn in the common ravens on campus. I know when to expect thunder storms and give to #þórr ahead of time, while giving to #Freyr during the milder rainy season. When crocus bulbs begin to pop up they tell me we're entering Spring and to thank #Mokosz. An #Cailleach blows in with the first frost.

One of course doesn't need to be a scientist to be keyed in like this, I know plenty of pagans who are not and are just as keyed in. For me though it's second nature, no pun intended. Having a localized practice brings me closer to the gods in a way that makes sense to me. It also informs how I interact with the land wights, making sure to leave offerings safe for local plants and animals when outdoors. It's brought me into the flow of life around me and I'm at grateful for it.

  24. A long while ago, I wrote a song for the real reason for the season. It's called, "There's a Little Man Who's Very Glad to See You In the Tree," and is about the oldest depiction of Santa Claus: the ithyphallic Freyr.
