As a horn player that is what always comes through to my ears

I took a lot of pictures at Pride this weekend, but I'm only going to share this one, because I think it really captures the spirit of the event -- taking joy in being your own weird self and not allowing anyone else to shame you for it. (This is also why I love Mastodon)
This woman rolled up on her mobility scooter, parked herself on a corner at the street fair, and started playing The Imperial March from Star Wars on her french horn, with a full (pre-recorded) orchestral backing. Honestly she was pretty good.

Listening to the Brandenburg Concertos after a long gap and forgot how exquisite the French horn parts are. Concerto 1, movement 3 (Allegro) is something I wish I could play.

Made a quick improvised #music composition for #FrenchHorn and #BlippooBox (in #VCVRack ) - some #NotBonkWave - or is it #BonkWave ? Certainly could be #HonkWave all made in #Bitwig - don't play too loud, the horn comes in pretty solidly.

I figured out a song and C, F, Bb, Ab, and D scales (in C) on #frenchhorn today, then mentally transposed about 4 bars of an F method book well enough to play it as written. the Laskey 85 arrived today and it feels good on my Lawson. I might have picked the instrument up years earlier if I'd realized I already trained on the F trombone. from here I think I mostly need to ramp up practice time to build up technique in my chops and air control

I've run it through a delay network and have introduced some other sounds to it. The part #FrenchHorn is taking more time to bring to fruition as I need to listen to this (with some added bassline and pads) quite a lot to hear the melody that will accompany this bit of potential #BonkWave - Do not set your volume too high - it is loud in parts.

@TheJen For what it’s worth, I think you’ll find that playing the #FrenchHorn now is easier than it would be several years from now.
In my case, I found that returning to the French horn at age 45 was quite doable. At 60 it was challenging… lip muscles and lung capacity not quite what they used to be, so it’s taken longer to get back to where I was. Still fun though!

Trumpets were modern day baroque trumpets (boo!) the French horn was authentic with no valves.
Soloists were all outstanding, beautiful work overall!

My kids will never fail to surprise me at what they can do, or what they are willing to attempt.
The twins are in seventh grade, they did the #SchoolPlay last year ("The Puffs", it was excellent! One of my boys was "he who shall not be named"!). This year, they also want to do the school musical. One of them even wants to go above and beyond and to the so-called #ZeroHour class, which is basically a school choir from what I understand (with a tux and everything).
All this on top of one of them playing #cello, the other playing #FrenchHorn (or just horn), both of them basically straight A's last year with one in the #GiftedEducation program.
The next youngest kiddo is going to follow along as well - fifth grader, gifted, taking sixth grade (at least...) math.
We will do everything we can to ensure that our kids succeed!

This is the "Corno da Tirarsi en Extremis" quite a large beast that I made up from a #FrenchHorn a #BassTrombone in G, 1.5 metres of 1/2" #CopperPipe and a #Gramophone horn! It's the first #horn in a sextet of strange beasts that will hopefully get an outing before the end of year - watch this space! #BrassBand -

This is my #introduction post! I don't have any other social media, and am generally bad at keeping up with them, but I've been seeing a lot about #mastodon and figured I'd give it a go. By way of #introduction it’s my 63rd birthday tomorrow! For most of my life I didn’t know who I was. In the 60s and 70s when I was at school nobody knew anything about autism. I was just this weird kid who didn’t cope with school, read a lot and hardly had any friends. I started learning the trumpet then the #FrenchHorn and spent a lot of time playing in #orchestras and #bands. #music has been my lifeline all my life. I still play in a bunch of bands and orchestras between Lismore and Brisbane.
