The fact that so many railroad workers actively helped train hoppers. A brakeman who gave them water, others who told them which engine number to look for to get a train to their desired destination, and more.

In the US and Canada, I'm told that the freight train have priority above passenger trains.
Many times the passengers have to wait for cargo.In the Netherlands it's the other way round: passenger trains have priority above freight trains.
And still the massive amount of cargo from Rotterdam (main port of EU) gets through to Germany and the rest of EU.
Sure, it's very, very complicated. (The Netherlands has more passenger train connections than the whole of the US while being 1% of US size.)So,
if you put people over profit... the money will find a way.
But the other way round, if you put profit over people... the money will destroy civilization even when millions take to the streets.Just a thought !
