It happened again... Yesterday, on my way to work, the rear brake on my #KTM #Freeride seized up. It had happened a few times before in winter time and I read somewhere that it could have been caused by road salt and gunk which I believed to be plausible.
I did look for a solution about a year ago but did not find any (other than machining an adapter bracket and putting brembo calipers on the bike).
So was very pleased to find out that now there is a 3rd-party rear caliper available that is plug&play at a somewhat reasonable price (250,-ish€).
It's the first upgrade in my 3 years of ownership and I really hope this solves the issue.
It still is unbelievable that KTM and #Formula got away with this dangerous design flaw (there are many reports of freeriders having the same or similar problems with the formula brakes).
I haven't found a replacement for the front brake though but it seized only once and never again after I changed the brake fluid so fingers crossed.

Yesterday I did a combination of a small skitour and Freeriding at Stoos SZ with a group of teens and senof their parents from SAC Winterthur.
First we ascended near Firenstökli. After lunch break we skied back to the ski resort and used the infrastructure for several off piste rides. Great to have motivated kids who pushed me to ski down the steepest parts with them as the grand finale. -

Rewatched the 2025 edition of #RedBull #Rampage #freeride #MTB recording a couple days ago and I've been having thoughts:
1) Love it that the women have progressed onto these big mountain stages and for the most part show a great style and control on such dangerous terrain.
2) OTOH, the men need to severely rethink how dimwitted it is to yeet yourself off a 30 meter cliff with inches separating a clean line from death for a mountainbike gameshow hosted by a caffeinated soft drinks company.

I've really never been a TV sports person. But, my new addiction is #fis #freeride. Sad that they traded Kicking Horse (BC, Canada) for some hill in Alaska. Waiting for first rider (youtube) from Thursday's event at Baqueira, Spain... so naturally I need to see if I can go there... Why no #train there. Spain seems to suck for rail.
