I thought of a funny memory about the gumbo here. When I was a kid and my family had first moved here, we were in a new subdivision where there were [1] few houses built yet. Just a square kilometer or two of bare gumbo, a former farmer's field.
When it was wet out and we'd be out exploring and doing mischiefs [2], you could actually feel yourself getting taller with each of your first few steps through the muck. It would cling to your shoes, in centimeter-thick layers before picking up the next layer.
After a few steps it wouldn't support any more layers, but your feet felt like they weighed a tonne by that point.

Time magazine recently ran an article about "the Balance Project" which is "a parent-run nonprofit working to rebuild communities to encourage childhood independence and get kids off screens"
I love tech as much as the next guy, and everyone says kids need less screen time, more outdoors time. But we as the parents sabotage this by not letting them have any independence, by making them afraid of the whole world, and by helicoptering them.

Child Abuse in on my mind right now. I have written a screenplay for a feature film that I'm already in early talks to produce. The bad guy in the movie is a child-rapist / child-killer. His presence alone justifies the anger of the heroes and creates the tension in the film. Yet I don't think I can make a movie that is a shlocky exploitation film. The subject matter is a bit too strong for something that careless.
