Another positive of Queensland's 50 cent fares is that I don't have to bike all 15 km to work, if for whatever reason (health/time/weather etc), I can't/don't want to, on any given day, and I don't have to use PT all the way. I can skip the bus part, leave home 10 minutes later, ride the bike 5 km to the station, pay $0.50, get on a train with my bike, and still make it to the office about 10 minutes earlier if I rode the whole way.

No need for costly turnstiles, ticket machines, fare collectors, transit cops hunting for fare evaders, the whole bureaucracy required for fare collection. And it would reduce cars on the road way more than subsidizing electric cars.
