May I make you aware of #FreeOTP, a #FOSS #authenticator #app by #RedHat. It is completely free of charge (no ads, no spying), completely open source, available on pretty much every #mobile OS, and it takes up only 1 MB of the storage in your #smartphone! That is 20 times less than Google's authenticator! I have been using it for many years and never had a single problem with it. If you are not already using another authenticator app, I can totally recommend this little pearl.

¿Alguien utiliza TOTPs? Yo utilizo #googleauthenticator pero como estoy en ese camino de desgooglearme estoy buscando alternativas.

Desde el sitio wed de #disroot mencionan un par pero uno, #andOTP parece ya no tener su página en #fdroid, y el otro que es #FreeOTP+ no se ha actualizado desde el 2024. Igual estos los he chequeado desde el repositorio por default de F-Droid así que todavía no he visto en otros repos.

Pero bueno, quienes usan TOTPs ¿Cuáles usan o cuáles recomiendan?

#PIN via #SMS (or #email) is a stupid idea anyway.

Best case: #FIDO2 hardware tokens. Well invested ~20-50€.

If you can't, use #PassKeys if you absolutely trust the service provider.

Both protect against phishing.

If not, use a trustworthy #TOTP app (#GoogleAuthenticator is NOT trustworthy any more!) like: #FreeOTP #Aegis

Other 2FA methods are more or less insecure.

started using #LineageOS on my SGS20+ today:

Counted:
- 48 of the 95 apps installed from #FDroid (= open source)
- another 8 open-source apps installed through the #Aurora Store
- and almost a dozen open-source apps sideloaded

That brings the proportion of FOSS apps on this device to ~80 percent.
Not bad at all!

Today, @fdroidorg offered me an update of #FreeOTP to version 2.0 after nearly exact 7 years of no FreeOTP update at all. Promises to be more secure. Yay, what could possibly go wrong? A lot. And now I regret that update: It requests to decide on a later #unchangeable (!) #password (Unchangeable?!? #WTF? What year do we have? How can this be "more secure"?) and has no more countdown timer. And downgrading back to 1.5 fails at F-Droid level with an unhelpful and generic error message. Great! 🤮

J'ai configuré la double authentification sur mon gestionnaire de mots de passe. Et hier, j'avais oublié mon téléphone donc pas possible de recevoir le sms...

Du coup, j'essaye de passer sur #FreeOTP sur le smartphone et #oathtool sur l'ordinateur. Mais je n'arrive pas à générer des codes identiques.

Le "secret" envoyé à oathtool, c'est le mot de passe pour ouvrir mon gestionnaire de mots de passe, ou c'est autre chose ?
