  1. CW: CW Creative Commons Webradio Frickeln

  2. With the doom and gloom about the #bandcamp sale, anybody remember #freemusicarchive that was co-founded(?) by #wfmu?
I think it was a great site, but it never got any updates in their tech stack. At some point, it got sold to a company with a sound-for-film library that thought it'd be a good addition to have Creative Commons-licensed music for filmmakers. It still serves all the music, but I think nobody cares about it anymore.

  3. some AI has yoinked my from and added visuals of... a wobbly futuristic town complete with minecraft cloud (0:14) and multiple "LARDD" stores (for example 1:51). I mean the song is creative commons so it's legal but it's just surprising and very strange

  4. @noorul I had some discussions in the 'verse with Elliot about the best way to import music from the #FreeMusicArchive into open.audio (which was done via the mirror on #Archive.org). It's a great resource.

  5. >> We’re also looking into incorporating subtle ads on the FMA site, which will help us ensure long term sustainability for the FMA. For some background: the FMA was previously run mostly on government grants, which are no longer viable—so this is one of a few changes we may make to ensure long term sustainability of the FMA, while staying true to its mission. <<

  6. The #FreeMusicArchive report they have been acquired by a camera rental platform called #KitSplit, and will resume normal transmission in the new year. Kudos to the KitSplit crew for stepping in to keep the #FMA alive:

  7. Some #GoodNews from the #FreeMusicArchive. Details are sketchy, but what they can tell us for now is that the site will *not* go down on Dec 1. Uploads are still suspended for now, and their collection is still being mirrored by #Archive.org, which is good anyway. #WatchThisSpace

  8. The #FreeMusicArchive is facing a funding crisis, and at this point, will be shutting down on Dec 1. If you, or your organisation, can help keep the #FMA alive, please contact them today! While their full collection and an archive of the site will be available on #Archive.org, it would be a real shame if the live site, and its community of curators, was lost to the web: freemusicarchive.org/member/ch

  9. I presume the ArchiveTeam will look into adding all the #FreeCulture licensed stuff from their copy of the #FreeMusicArchive to the Community Music collection on Archive.org? That's another source of legally free music for #FunkWhale:

  10. @wendy
yes it's sad .. I wish we had more organised systems and people around to offer some support ...

maybe something is to think about is a ring of #Funkwhale instance to host and curate productions ? I feel that the website and the tech behind (flashplayer :z) was also a bit in need of refresh

So this kind of crisis is possibly the occasion to renew and relaunch something for the next times

other community radios groups - like radia - should also be into this
