Back at it, yesterday, Oct.15, fishing in Monarch Canyon. It was another grand day. I'm working the stream heading, up, toward one of the many deep holes in the creek. Hanging down it the bottoms, in the colder water, are mountain white fish and rainbows. Funny thing, I don't fish to catch fish. I do it as meditation, as a creature of nature.

Free-hiking, I cut my own path. Often, going where others, don't. A path not taken. I carry what I need. I discover clothes to be a bother and needless. Scraps and scratches from the plants are expected. My brothers-in-law say I'm a risk-taker, because I go alone. Going alone is best. I see more and hear more. I'm not a social naturist.

The last day of camping, it's time to tare down the tent. The broom and dust pan must were left home. That means, the pain in the ass tent must be pitched in the backyard, so the leaves, seeds, dirt and dead bugs, mostly flies can be swept, before packing the tent for storage.

After painting a glorious sunrise and as the air warmed, the butterflies became active. I went about collecting a few butterflies and beetles. As I did, the ever present flies swarmed. My naked hides saving grace, a good coat of insect repellent. So many flies were unusual, I think the flies were there because of the elk. You can see the swarming flies, white dots, in the one photo.

This damn tent is a pain. My wife was with me when I bought it. She pledged she'd camp, with this roomy hotel. Because I camp where people aren't, in Hell, she stays home. What should take a few minutes, takes about an hour to pitch. The arm braces tend to bind, requiring undoing and twisting the arms until they unlock and slide into place. I got to say it is roomy.

July 17-18th, I went into the Little Belt Mountains to paint and collect moths, butterflies and other insects. After some exploration, I found a place where people weren't. Likely, they didn't want to brave the rocky and rutted forest road with their RV's. The meadow was perfect for being clothes-free. It faced southeast. I'd get a good view of a sunrise to paint. Thunderstorms rolled pasted as I set up my tent.
