Electricity costs more today than yesterday, but we've used nothing from the grid. Quite a lot of sun today, so house battery has 3.4 kWh more charge than at same time yesterday.

My work on automations in #HomeAssistant for #octopusenergy #freeelectricity on flux are paying off.
One hour before, discharge the battery, then charge the battery and heat the hot water via immersion for free, then sell the battery back at 4pm when its peak. The octopus integration gives me the event details so all driven off an automatically created calendar entry without manual intervention. Makes us a few pounds each time we have an event. -
Well I never! Tried firing up one of my old 1TH/s BitMine.ch #bitcoin miners that have been gathering dust since about 2015.
After tweaking a few network settings, pointing it at a new pool... it worked!
Not really cost effective to run it permanently, but I thought I'd just have a muck about whilst it was an #OctopusEnergy #FreeElectricity hour.

To be fair, the #FreeElectricity reality (ehm at least mine) is a lot more sensible: put the washing machine on twice, charge up every device with a battery, fill a thermos with hot water to have tea when we go out later. That kind of “salt of the earth” stuff 😂 It surely saves loads more for people with EVs etc

of the “Agile” tariff you’re on) , so I’ve just got up early to set my washing machine, dishwasher and extra heater on. Based on previous sessions, I expect to save - about a quid. But - it’s the principle of the thing! -

Did a slightly better job of using the @[email protected] hour of #FreeElectricity today: Stuck some laundry on and defrosted the freezer using my patented point-a-fan-heater-at-it-and-come-back-with-a-mop technique, while baking a CAKE.

#OctopusEnergy are doing #FreeElectricity between 1-2pm today. Got the washing machine, tumble dryer and sandwich toaster on and I’m maxing out at 65p an hour. Don’t expect a massive refund.

apparently I used 7 pence of #FreeElectricity on August 15th. I will have to try harder to burn off the excess #electricity on the grid.
