#ChatControl 1.0 is supposed to expire in April, but the European Commission wants to allow companies the indiscriminate scanning of private messages for two more years.

For multiple years at #FreedomNotFear, participants discussed that this is disproportionate mass surveillance and should be stopped. Activists are now calling on members of the European Parliament to reject the extension proposed by the Commission. What about you?

#FreedomNotFear 2025 was a great experience in Brussels again. More than 90 participants from various countries joined the (un-)conference and organised workshops on the digital rights topics of their choice.

Many of us then visited the European Parliament together or scheduled individual meetings with policy-makers to advocate for democracy and fundamental rights in an increasingly digitalised world.

We look forward to reconvene as #FNF26 next year!

Finally concluded the last parts of #FNF25 - after a weekend of workshops and networking, many of us visited the European Parliament. Heading back from a great first evening at #FNF25. After so many months of preparation, it is amazing to see it all materialise.

Already had lots of interesting conversations and met cool people. I really look forward to the sessions tomorrow. There is a sense of urgency for the many topics on the digital rights landscape right now, but also a willingness to act together. ✊

We want everyone at #FreedomNotFear 2025 to be as safe and empowered to participate as possible. At the event we ask everyone to be conscious of your own behaviour and respect needs for distance or other safety measures of people around you. There is a code of conduct for #FNF25 and we ask everyone participating and co-organising to read the code of conduct beforehand. We consider participation in Freedom of Fear 2025 as acknowledgement of the FNF25 code of conduct.

The annual self-organized conference on digital rights and data protection will take place

on 26–29 September 2025 (Friday–Monday).

At Freedom Not Fear, people from across Europe and beyond come together to advocate for freedom in the digitalized world, plan actions against attacks on civil liberties and increasing surveillance, and seek discussions with decision-makers.

The date has been set and volunteers have started preparing the event. We are working to find the location and sort out funding. Also, we’re looking for more volunteers to help us organize the event. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, 19 February, at 20:00 CET. If you would like to help and join this or any later meeting, or if you have any suggestions, please get in touch!

Wow, #fnf24 what was that?!! I'm still kinda overwhelmed (in the most positive way) from Freedom Not Fear – which took part in Brussels last weekend. I'm so happy that everything went well, as a part of the Orga-Team, glad to gather so much interesting information and connections as a Participant of the conference, and blessed to meet so many friendly and inspiring people, during the days, and nights, too ;) Thank you ALL for creating some new hope in this dystopian Era we're going through.
