#FreedomNotFear 2025 was a great experience in Brussels again. More than 90 participants from various countries joined the (un-)conference and organised workshops on the digital rights topics of their choice.

Many of us then visited the European Parliament together or scheduled individual meetings with policy-makers to advocate for democracy and fundamental rights in an increasingly digitalised world.

We look forward to reconvene as #FNF26 next year!

Finally concluded the last parts of #FNF25 - after a weekend of workshops and networking, many of us visited the European Parliament. Some of us also scheduled meetings with members of the European Parliament or other policymakers to advocate for digital rights in the context of the topics we discussed over the weekend.

Heading back from a great first evening at #FNF25. After so many months of preparation, it is amazing to see it all materialise.

Already had lots of interesting conversations and met cool people. I really look forward to the sessions tomorrow. There is a sense of urgency for the many topics on the digital rights landscape right now, but also a willingness to act together. ✊

At the event we ask everyone to be conscious of your own behaviour and respect needs for distance or other safety measures of people around you. There is a code of conduct for #FNF25 and we ask everyone participating and co-organising to read the code of conduct beforehand. We consider participation in Freedom of Fear 2025 as acknowledgement of the FNF25 code of conduct.

**Call for Registrations: #FreedomNotFear 2025**

Freedom Not Fear (FNF) is an annual self-organised conference on privacy and digital rights. People from across Europe and beyond come together to advocate for freedom in the digitalized world, plan actions against attacks on civil liberties and increasing surveillance, and seek discussions with decision-makers.

#FNF25 takes place 26–29 September in Brussels. Register by 11 August:

Wow, #fnf24 what was that?!! I'm still kinda overwhelmed (in the most positive way) from Freedom Not Fear – which took part in Brussels last weekend. We have concluded this year's #FreedomNotFear with a visit to the European Parliament. Some of the participants further used the time in Brussels to schedule individual meetings with members of the European Parliament to raise awareness about the topics we discussed during the weekend.

Inside the European Parliament with our #FreedomNotFear group. For a whole weekend activists convened workshops and discussions on #DigitalRights. Now the participants of #FNF24 are visiting the Brussels chamber.

Tag 3 der europäischen Digitalrechtsaktivismus-Konferenz #FreedomNotFear #FNF24 in Brüssel. Für D64 nehmen Mitglieder und Geschäftsstelle teil und vernetzen sich mit Aktivist:innen aus ganz Europa.

Inhaltlich geht es um europäische Digitalpolitik, die politische Lage in den Nationalstaaten der Teilnehmer:innen und Inhalte, wie den European Health Data Space, eIDs, Smartphone-Tracker, KI und Privatsphäre und den Digital Gap. Daneben bleibt viel Raum für Austausch, Netzwerken und Skillshares.

Like any barcamp, #FreedomNotFear is a self-organizing (un)conference. However, it is safe to say that this year's #FnF24 would not have happened without @mocksita, @pneutig and Tobias. They have been planning this event for months.

Other volunteers have joined the planning team over time. If you can imagine making #FnF25 happen, do talk to them. We need you!

Heartfelt thanks go out to Lara who stepped in as a facilitator when it turned out that @wiebkehere would not available this year.

Anja Wyrobek and Ralf @bendrath explain how EU laws are made. Spoiler: It's not a user-friendly process.

Anja's job title is Legal Policy Advisor for MEP Birgit Sippel, Coordinator for S&D - Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and former Vice-Chair of the Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence in a Digital Age.

Ralf is an advisor on LIBE for the Greens/EFA.

On a more serious note, this year's #FreedomNotFear barcamp is a “back to the roots” effort – much like in its early days – because it is not organized by a single NGO but by various activists like us.

@fnf did not even have a bank account until the gentleman in the background (@uhw) arranged one managed by @D64eV.
