So here's the actual thing they can and will do without having to change anything about how our court system currently works (#FreeBritney and Wendy Williams and all the comrades):

They can disappear your ass into civil commitment whenever the fuck they feel like it. Like I currently have a client who was brutally assaulted in a public park -- by a fucking elected official! -- beat over the head with a cane so that she had to have her scalp stapled shut, and SHE was arrested because the assailant told MPD "she's just a drug addict" and the pig bitch cop was like "bet." Our client had been missing for FIVE WEEKS before we were able to track her down, because she had been committed at St. Elizabeth's psychiatric hospital (we're still working with her public defender and the press to get her out and get any accountability whatsoever for her attacker).

So what's going to happen, just like with the brutal way ICE is picking brown people off and disappearing them, is that because there aren't enough actual psychiatric facilities to even pretend to try to place in them whomever *federal agents say* are unhoused, or using drugs, or mentally ill -- they're going to disappear several new populations into concentration camps.

And yes "mentally ill" means whatever the cops say it means on the spur of the moment when they feel like dragging you off to the camps. Authoritarianism adores pseudoscience, and this is a police state. Y'all are correct to be scared as fuck about being targeted, even snitched on, for any whiff of neurodivergence, or for having a psychiatric drug prescription. I'm also reading this EO's language about unhoused "sexual predators"' access to shelter being a thinly veiled green light on targeting trans women in particular, since Rufo et al are continually fucking that chicken. I'm going to also go ahead and say it out loud that making mental illness great again will likely also take us right back to the good old days of disappearing cis women for hysteria. Why not disappear Black people for drapetomania for good measure.

Because you're absolutely right, she has always maintained a strong and loyal fan base. Her fans played a huge part in helping her escape the conservatorship.

And she's always been an icon in the queer community.

And she's consistently been commercially successful.

At the same time, there was a period of time there where she was viewed with utter disdain by large sections of the media and many critics.

It seemed to really turn toxic (no pun intended) around the time she broke up with Justin Timberlake, and didn't let up until quite recently.

And it wasn't just the tabloids and the gossip bloggers. The mainstream media and sections of the respectable music press were more than willing to sink a boot in.

I mean, just see that interview with Diane Sawyer for a prime example. Pure concentrated contempt.

And Sawyer was far from alone among media figures and critics.

So getting back to the RHCP.

It's nowhere near as nasty and as vicious towards the Chillis as it was towards Britney.

But they're at a similar point in their careers, where critics and writers can sneer at them, safe in the knowledge there will be no serious consequences for doing so.

And many in the comments sections of their videos and articles and social posts will gladly jump in.

This poor guy. Decades before #FreeBritney he was under an abusive conservatorship until his wife was able to take that over. He has dealt with real mental health challenges his whole life and now dementia is piled on on top of that.
