Thanks to the gracious Mr. Brian Faulkner, I'll be a guest alumnus DJ on KDVS in Davis, CA, this Sunday from 3 to 6pm PT on Brian's "Nothing Exceeds Like Excess" program.
Joining us will be our friend Eric Janssen.
I had a 3-hour show on KDVS on Saturday nights from 1985 'til 1993. This will be my first time on the air in Davis since 1996.

I recently stopped in to the studios of East Village Radio to see my old pal Brian Turner, who's now the head cheese of that operation. I did a few fill-in shows at EVR around 20 years ago, which I admit were primarily motivated by my desire to experience making radio two feet from a busy street. (The cramped studio is in a street level storefront next to Lil' Frankie's Italian restaurant near the intersection of 1st Ave and Houston St.)
The show "Girls Club Radio" was on air when I stopped in -- a show which is billed as "a weekly spotlight on the people of the Lower East Side... run by women, for everyone!" which seemed totally great.
Funny memory of my brief time at EVR: Being on air one afternoon and playing something from the (then new) Rob Swift record as... Rob Swift himself walked by, ducked his head through the door and fistbumped me to say thanks for spinning his record.
These types of brief celeb-sightings apparently happen frequently -- Brian told me about a recent show during which he was playing some really abrasive avant/experimental piece, and Philip Glass walked by and made a face at him through the glass before continuing down the street.

I'll be sitting out the regular WFMU rotation after tonight's show -- I'm a big believer in the periodic, self-imposed hiatus, and it's definitely time to let the creative batteries re-charge while I tend to various work and life matters. But I've been doing this for 35 years now, so I'm sure I'll be back at some point.
