I’m watching with interest how comics are changing around me. There’s a lot of work being produced that impresses me, and a lot that leaves me cold, but even with the good stuff I’m finding it harder to tell how it’s being produced, and that makes me feel disconnected with the hand and mind of the artist who made it.

I’ve gone back to basics. Not to uphold tradition, and not to reject progress, but for the honesty and immediacy of getting my vision from my head to the paper without any digital intervention.

It's this time of the year again. I mean Inktober time.

I'll never be good at drawing, but I don't care, I'm enjoying myself, and I am making progress little by little.

Today's prompt is "dream" so I drew Dream himself, aka Morpheus aka The Sandman.

I didn't draw him from scratch - you know I can't do that - so I found inspiration in a drawing from the amazing Frank Quitely.

When the other wannabe cool kids (Mark Millar, Garth Ennis, Brad Meltzer...) where smearing the classical superhero archetype, enjoying their mud bath salted with cynicism, Morrison came with the definitive love letter to such archetype, showing everybody there was life behind the camp and the supposedly conservative subtext. Frank Quitely added his magic on a comic-book not for the soulless.

Stack Clean: The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1

I've liked the Grant Morrison comics I've read before, but I wasn't sure I had the appetite for his take on Watchmen in The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1. The comic is well done, with beautiful art by Frank Quitely and some really compelling playing with form and storytelling.
