Wenn man von Nürnberg nach Regensburg mit dem Rad fahren will, gibt es mehrere mögliche Strecken. Die eine führt durch das Altmühltal und entlang des Rhein-Main-Donau-Kanals nach Kehlheim, wo man nur noch in die richtige Richtung die Donau entlang fahren muss um nach Regensburg zu kommen. Die andere Srecke geht weiter östlich über die angeblich sehr hübsche Stadt Amberg und dann nach Süden. Beide haben gemeinsam, dass sie entlang von Flüssen und Kanälen verlaufen und daher kaum Höhenmeter aufweisen, aber fast ein wenig zu lang sind für eine Tagesetappe, wo man nicht erst bei Sonnenuntergang im Hotel ankommen will.
