What is sad is not #PopeFrancis's death per se: it is the knowing that the #catholic #church has so few leaders like him in its ranks. The #Pope chose #Francis of Assisi as his namesake, who put the vow of #poverty at the heart of the #franciscan order. Very unlike other residents of the #Vatican. He was routinely accused of #wokeness for pointing the finger at the corrupting power of money & for embodying #compassion for all people (incl. #LGBTQ & #indigenous leaders) & #nature (#LaudatoSi).RIP

8 January 1894 | Fr. Maximilian Kolbe, OFM, was born in Zduńska Wola.

As a prisoner of Auschwitz (no. 16670) on 29 July 1941, he sacrificed his life to save a person selected for starvation death after an escape of a prisoner. On 14 August 1941, he was murdered with a phenol injection.
