Well, if you've got an 11th generation Intel #Framework 13 (i.e. the first gen model) and you start encountering weird behaviours -- in my case failing to properly power on until it's plugged into AC and clock reset issues -- replace that CMOS battery! I got a freebie replacement from #FrameworkComputer and my flaky FW13 is now 100% back to normal.
I have to admit I was too chicken to get the battery replacement module... I do not trust myself with a soldering iron *that* much...

I have had a #frameworkcomputer 13 for 4-5 years now and have generally been happy with the hardware. The upgrade path and community are pretty excellent.
Their support is a pain to deal with in my experience (~1 email per day, ~7-10 business days to go from initial warranty claim back to a working system, 2 claims in 4-5 years). I've also had two i7-1260p mainboards die on me, one just last week.
My verdict is I'm going to buy another board to see if the new AMD hotness keeps me in the orbit for another 5 years. I'm feeling the #Asahi gravity pulling me towards the impressive efficiency of an m2 Linux MacBook Pro though...

@IslandUsurper People were making noise on the Fediverse because some of the open-source projects Framework sponsored had a conservative or far-right maintainer. One of them had discriminatorily moderated against someone in the LGBT (and had apologized, when I looked into it), and another one had written some questionable articles which many found racist. Framework supported their projects, but denounced the acts of the maintainers.

It is time for a new #Linux laptop. My Librem 13 served me well for eight and a half years. Yesterday it was in my lap when a bouncy 60 pound dog bounced into my lap, and it now has problems I can't fix. Unfortunately #purism doesn't have the Librem 14 in stock.
Any recommendations? I am looking at #System76 models. I was interested in #FrameworkComputer but heard problematic things about the company's sponsorship choices.
Repairability is a priority!

Folks expected much better from them, especially because - in their mind - framwork was out there to make the world a slightly better place...

@gardiner_bryant Watched your video on this on YT this morning. I think you were spot on. I didn't know about the 'distro' Omarchy and DHH before this controversy.
@frameworkcomputer needs to read the room. Even if it is a C-suite's PERSONAL 'distro', using #frameworkcomputer social wealth to promote a fascist's work is damning to the company.
I love what Framework is doing. I WANT my next laptop to be one of their products. I'm concerned of Framework's longevity with active decisions like this. -
If you consider boycotting #frameworkComputer but want to buy from an ethical company, consider @novacustom. They build laptops with strong privacy, control (disabling IntelME), and FLOSS is a priority: they support @Dasharo @coreboot. Company is based in EU #buyFromEU. Spare parts available
Also, be aware that @frameworkcomputer might still be one of the best option. Whatever the company, some of your money will most probably be pocketted as dividends by a too-rich asshole like DHH, or worse 😞

The alternative was to say "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will look into this." and then do some internal analysis and/or soul searching and come up with a better response than "We have no problems working with and funding rightwing and white supremacist asshats."

@ricardo @frameworkcomputer *Such* a bummer... My current laptop is still doing okay which is why I haven't upgraded but I had been looking forward a lot! to buy one of their computers. I hope they rethink their approach because there's no one else that im aware of that builds computers that are as interesting af as they do...

Be me. Buy your own first new laptop ever. Be happy with it, showcase it to people on conferences, probably move some of them to buy it also, because repairability, open source, making a stance etc.
Three months later, the company starts sponsoring projects well known associated with toxic behaviour and in the case of specific people from those projects, fascism - and their first reactions to call outs is not really what I'd expect from them.
I'm keeping the laptop, but unless they do something about this, I guess when it breaks too much, I'll get back to get an upcycled Thinkpad or something 🫠
