Finally installed the finale OS for my parents #framework12 laptops.

Went with #Fedora #workstation . I was originally planning to install #silverblue , but printing support in flatpaks is too flaky from my tests, and that's one thing they do often. So workstation it is 🤞

Went with #Fedora #workstation . I was originally planning to install #silverblue , but printing support in flatpaks is too flaky from my tests, and that's one thing they do often. So workstation it is 🤞

Still playing with the Framework 12, now the system is a triple boot, as I installed FydeOS in addition of #popos and #haikuos .

There, tablet mode is working quite well:
* with a virtual keyboard respecting the selected layout in the OS,
* the physical keyboard and touchpad being disabled in tablet mode.

Unfortunately, there is no screen rotation despite the option being active in the settings.

As much as I don’t like chrome, I must admit the system is really nice to use.

Still playing with the Framework 12 laptops.

So yesterday evening, I installed Haiku. Strangely enough I had to install using the beta5 iso, as installing with the 3 latest nightly isos just failed 🤔
However, after the successful installation, upgrading to the latest nightly just worked fine 🤷‍♀️

The system is installed in UEFI mode in dual boot with Pop OS and using rEFInd as a boot manager.

Now some observation about Haiku on the Framework 12:
* While in the live environment during installation the trackpad works, once Haiku is installed and booted, it does not work 😪
* The WiFi is working contrary to the installation on my Thinkpad T450 😀

Friday, before the start of the week-end I received the @frameworkcomputer #framework12 laptops for my parents.
They will be installed with #Linux of course.

As they won’t be delivered before some time, I ’m playing a bit with them. One have been installed with #fedora #silverblue, the other one with #aeondesktop.

So far I like what I’ve seen with the #gnome desktop:
* When the screen is rotated, the keyboard is disabled.
* When in tablet mode, the screen orientation follow the device orientation.
* The power draw in sleep mode looks ok.
* BIOS/UEFI update are supported with #lvfs.

But I also have some issues:
* The virtual keyboard in tablet mode, is only in qwerty, even if the system is configured with another layout.
* When the virtual keyboard appears, some windows content is not moved above the keyboard, which might make it difficult to see what one is typing.
* On the Aeon install I had to `sdbootutil --ask-pin update-predictions` after installation to have the #tpm2 unlock working.

Can assemble it yourself (which seems easy & fun for anyone who has swapped out hard drives or RAM), or buy pre-built.

I'm now about 2 weeks into using my new #Framework12 from @frameworkcomputer running #Linux (which I previously only toyed with way back in the #RedHat days), and every second I'm using this machine I'm enjoying more and more. What an absolute delight.

I've set it up for a long-term project in modest on-the-go security-focused data analysis, which is a purely utilitarian endeavor, but it's also just such a very fun laptop to use. And the benefits of the #framework platform is a huge bonus. 😀

If you are running #opensuse on a #framework12 and wonder why the kernel is tainted....
Remove the framework-laptop-kmp-default package. Doesn't make sense on the 12.

Going to be setting it and Kubuntu up over the next few days and see what its Capable of!

I've had my #framework12 laptop for a month, and it's a great machine.

#Framework12 už mám skoro 3 měsíce. A jsem s ním maximálně spokojený. Díky tablet módu jsem objevil skvělou aplikaci Xournal++ https://xournalpp.github.io/
Dřív jsem běhal po fabrikách s vytištěnýma layoutama, do kterých jsem kreslil barevnýma fixama a to jsem teď nahradil Xournalem. I když se všude píše, že procesor FW12 je lemra (mám tu vyšší verzi), tak mně to vůbec nepřijde. Když jsem ty recenze četl, tak jsem se bál, že nebude ani zvládat svižně otevírat velké PDF soubory, ale opak je pravdou.
