Just gotta say that running Windows OSes on a Mac in VMs .. rocks!

I have clients on Windows and Mac. Been using VMware Fusion for years to run multiple OSes at once and switch between them as needed.

The best part, though, is being able to run old software! I have a copy of #AutoCAD 2004 (from when I worked at #Autodesk 20+ years ago), that runs great in my Win7 VM. I'm also able to run #FrameMaker 12 (2014) .. pre-subscription.

A few years ago I looked into canceling my #FrameMaker subscription about half way through the year. When I saw that 50% fee, I decided to keep the remaining time. But then canceled when the term was up, and have never subscribed again.

If #Adobe offered an easy-on, easy-off monthly option, I would likely still be a reasonably satisfied user. But instead I recommend my clients to bail, or roll back to an older, pre-subscription version.

There are parallels here for tech writers too, with #FrameMaker, #DocBook, #AsciiDoc, #ReStructuredText or #DITA.

Each tool we learn teaches us something about the others.

As we wait for the PDF to finish let us ponder the sights and wonders we've seen on our journey...

There was that one image we couldn't find and relink at all. Followed by six more of the same. All the fonts that wouldn't load! And who could forget the first time we tried PDFing that crashed? Ah... The memories.

Hopefully we arrive where we're going and come out as better people for it. Now I would like you all to bow your heads. Let us pray...

Seriously, #Adobe? A 33% increase in the subscription price for #FrameMaker? Most of my clients have moved to #OxygenXML for #DITAxml authoring, so this may be the time to finally cut my ties. I’ve been a FrameMaker user/developer for over 30 years. A bit bittersweet. Looks like I have a month to make some final plugin updates. Will see how that goes. :-(
