You know what? Let's have another referendum on MMP, but this time - like the first time - let's do it properly. 2 referenda; a Louis Vuitton cup of election systems, including FPP as an option, and then the final runoff between the winner of that, and MMP.
Bonus points for including a constitutional document that describes how the NZ works now, and one for each contender, documenting what would change.

FPP (First Past the Post) elections are a choice between a shit sandwich and a rotten fish sandwich. Every election, voters have to try and figure out which of the 2 available parties are selling which. But whoever they vote for, they still get a crappy sandwich, and if they stop and think about it for a minute or 2, they wish there were third options that weren't so crappy.

In local elections in the UK the Electoral Comission says:
“In the event of a tie, then a candidate is selected by the drawing of lots (i.e., a method of selection by chance such as tossing a coin or picking a name out of a hat).”
I’m sorry. What!? First past the post is a dreadful system.

I had a great time at yesterday's film photography meetup. It was soggy and cold, but it was great to see the FPP gang again - and to meet some new people, too. Shot a couple rolls of film around Bowling Green.

Look what @shouldhavezagged.com made for me! FPP is not one of my skills, but it sure is one of hers! It’s incredibly made and the way she “signed” it with the additional lettered section is *chef’s kiss*
She agreed to use scraps from a quilted curtain that I made so that it will go in that room perfectly. I am currently deciding pillow or wallhanging but either way it’s going to be an awesome addition to my Grinch holiday decor!

It's proved to be one of the downsides of MMP, that down-list candidates can become MPs with little to no public scrutiny of their character or background. In hindsight I wish the electorate had chosen STV over MMP in the first referendum. Where they choose which proportional election system would go head-to-head against FPP in the second part of the referendum.
