I think there was equal distaste… Weekly Recap 11/3/2025
When I was a kid in school, I think I pretty much had an equal distaste for most of my classes. Trying to pick a favorite is, as usual, a very difficult thing for me to do.
I mean, I had a Computer Science class where we basically played games 90% of the time. Does that count?
But electives aside, I can tell you one thing I especially disliked was English class.
I absolutely hated reading books and writing about them. At the time, there were many titles that I couldn’t appreciate in the slightest degree: Joy Luck Club, Mrs. Dalloway, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Animal Farm, Things Fall Apart… and the list goes on.
I would have done anything in my power to not read those books.
A surprising turn of events, then, that much of my time today is spent reading books and writing about them.
Daily writing prompt What was your favorite subject in school? View all responsesGood morning and happy Monday, friends! I hope you had a happy Samhain and a happy start to November!
Did you remember to change your clocks?
I probably drove for about 12 hours over the weekend. Selene and I went from home to Ft. Lauderdale to Silver Springs, FL for FPG-Samhain… then to Ft. Lauderdale again and finally back to home. We were only at FPG for about… hmm… maybe 18 hours total? But at least we got to see our people for a brief moment! And I got to meet Sara Mastros and Erich and Alannah Brown in person for the first time.
Due to the short time span, the fact that we arrived after all the workshops had ended, and my failure to take many pictures (in total, I took five), I won’t be doing my usual festival recap post. But you can always rewind time and read about what happened in 2023!
Okay, ready? Here’s my recap:
FPG-Samhain 2025: Saw old friends. Met new friends.
Oh and we may have seen aliens.
It may have also been the Taurid meteor shower, but it also may have been aliens.
When we left on Sunday morning, we decided to go to the most dive diner we could find. It actually turned out pretty delicious.
What kind of people would we be if we didn’t also stop by Buc-ee’s?
I got some fudge.
One is the standard chocolate flavor. The other is blueberry cheesecake. And yes, it actually tastes like blueberry cheesecake!
Earlier in the week, we did some pumpkin carving. You can watch my short video showing off my creation, or you can just look at this picture.
I think that’s about all to report for now. I’ve got a pretty packed week and we’re planning for another trip this weekend.
Stay tuned for more soon!

While exploring the many different shops in downtown Portland yesterday, I found a few of these Colossal Cards that FPG published back in the day, with the art of Joe Jusko.
It took a lot of willpower not to buy them all on the spot. It wasn't a full series. But now I want to start scourging collectible shops online and in person until I come up with a complete set...
