At least seven public officials have been formally adjudicated to be #disqualified and #barred from #public #office under Section 3 of the #Fourteenth #Amendment since its ratification in 1868.The list includes five former #Confederates who held office after the Civil War, as well as former New Mexico County Commissioner #Couy #Griffin, who a state court removed from office last year based on his participation in the #January #6th #insurrection following a lawsuit CREW brought on behalf of three New Mexico residents.

A lawsuit, filed by Penguin Random House, five authors, two parents of children affected by the bans, and the non-profit group PEN America, alleges that the Escambia County school board #banned and restricted #books "based on their disagreement with the ideas expressed in those books."
In so doing, the school board has "prescribed an orthodoxy of opinion that #violates the #First and #Fourteenth #Amendments."
“In Escambia County, state censors are spiriting books off shelves in a deliberate attempt to suppress diverse voices.
