Mary Shelley has been spayed! And I’m struck once again by the fundamental feminism behind cat rescue, which is often about this kind of reproductive health. Nature designed cats to be reproductive powerhouses in a way that’s not needed with human care — they don’t need to have so many kittens in an environment where the vast majority of them survive. And she’s meeting a potential new family next weekend!🤞

Mary Shelley is getting spayed tomorrow! And then hopefully we’ll find her a home soon. She was an amazing mamacat, but now her kittens are all adopted and she’s ready to retire. (And by the time the kittens left, she really *was* ready to retire. 😅) I don’t know how many litters she had when she was living on the street, but I’m glad she was able to have one where everybody was healthy and cared for and safe and loved.

The new kids are so shy and clinging to each other I can’t get a proper pic. They are eating and potty g though so that’s good. One brushed her hand against Jim’s while he was sleeping last night though so they are Venturi g out when they feel it’s “safe.” No repeat of the bed wetting from the other night fortunately though. #FosterCats

And here were are. Five little ones: a solid black one, two brown-gray tabbies like Mom, and two blue-gray tabbies. The blue-gray ones remind me a lot of my Anastasia and Windsor. One of the brown-gray tabbies is a bit small, which is not totally out of the ordinary (queens can mate over the course of a few days, leading to kittens in the same litter being conceived a few days apart), but I’ll be keeping a close eye on that one. Mary is being a great mom, though with the casualness of someone who has done this before.

They will snuggle up in bed with you. They like climbing up to high places to nap. Onyx will curl up in your lap while you're watching TV. Do not leave anything on the kitchen counter that you do not want Henry to eat.

This is Tiny Princess Sandy Claws ... who just had some sort of unseen Horrible Traumatic Incident, probably with the water bowls. We don't know, she's tiny and was in the kitchen and then something happened and she was soaking wet on Other Mother's shoulder, Traumatized. She has now been (gently!) rubbed and swaddled and would like to report that she is Never Moving Again
