  2. theguardian.com/business/2026/. WHY is this being permitted? Would we allow drug-pushers to #advertise their wares freely? Yet #fossilfuels are just as #lethal, to #humans, to non-human #animals, to #nature, & to the #planet. #Protesters against the #Fossilfuel #companies get locked up, but their #directors make millions, as do their #shareholders, the companies are heavily #subsidised, & make enormous #profits.

  3. theguardian.com/commentisfree/. "Some of the #motivations for the #Trump administration’s pro-carbon, anti-green #policy postures have to do with cold, hard #cash. #Fossilfuel #companies have given a staggering amount to Trump over the past several years... But part of the Trump’s love of #fossilfuels - & his accompanying hostility to #Climatechange #mitigation, #green #initiatives, & #nature #conservation - might be less #transactional than #libidinal." 4. FOSSIL FUELS RECEIVE FOUR TIMES MORE GOVERNMENT SUPPORT THAN RENEWABLES

A new report from WWF-Australia reveals that Australian governments spend $20.1 billion annually supporting fossil fuels - four times more than renewables. Discover how this dual energy export strategy risks a $70 billion economic loss by 2035 and what steps are needed to secure a clean energy future.

  5. CW: NZ National - fossil fuels are the future

When Canadian company Methenex announced they were leaving NZ, logical people assumed that was the end of National's proposed LNG terminal. After all, Methenex uses 40-50% of NZ's total gas supply so shortages will no longer be an issue.

But no. Simeon Brown says National intends to sneakily sign the contract after parliament has risen for the election. These fossils with their backward thinking will add a massive bill (around $2.7b incl financing) onto NZ taxpayers for the next 15 years for a terminal that's unlikely to ever be used.

I wonder which National Party donors stand to benefit from this white elephant project?

    Talk about dirty politics.

Tracking changes in Australia’s forests in near‑real time – using satellites

"Researchers have installed sensors in many areas highly exposed to climate extremes
Tracking change with satellites and sensors won’t prevent droughts, fires or ecosystem decline. But this approach can help spot emerging threats, improve forecasts and give the evidence needed to make better decisions in an increasingly uncertain future." >>

  9. Hmm. @Philsturgeon. This ban on advertising #fossilFuels etc is of course a step in the right direction.

But what I'd really like to see is ban advertising in public spaces. No ads on billboards, on bus shelters, on buses etc. Stop fecking bombarding us!

  10. I'm supposed to be investing for something called retirement (though I think even that is a silly, unachievable dream) yet I'm doing it so half heartedly because, well, I feel so jaded and cynical about what any investment (even in so-called green investments) is really perpetuating. Companies invest in other companies so even if I buy stocks in companies that I believe in, what companies are *they* investing in, and so on.

So, friends, what's your solution to investing for the future while not investing in shitty things like LNG tankers and unbearable labour standards and the list goes on? Help me out here.

É engraçado, nunca usei um aparelho desses, porque nunca compro nada nessas garrafas de plástico.
Talvez essa seja uma solução muito melhor. 😜

That's funny, I have never used one of these machines, because I never buy things in those plastic bottles.
Maybe that's an even better solution. 😜

  13. @ketan Yup, it's effective sleight of hand in cornering root infrastructure, that includes energy. Look at the food industry and how only 3 suppliers now dominate that sector. Fossil fuels obviously rules air, and minerals are now being contested worldwide, all the while squeezing the 99% more into extinction.

  15. Rights to oppose mining projects ‘gutted’ by new laws

“What the laws are designed to do is to stop anyone who understands we are in a climate crisis from objecting to putting more CO2 in the atmosphere.”

"Lock the Gate Alliance national coordinator, Ellen Roberts, said the government was “tearing up democratic and environmental protections just to make life easier for mining companies – it is following Campbell Newman’s playbook to the letter”. >>
