  1. I am trying to convince folks on #JMA to add another #CTF server to the network. I am hoping I could get a big enough VPS from #BoxyBSD then run the #gameserver on #freebsd

The main objectives I have is evaluating FreeBSD to run a #Luanti gameserver. Some sources indicate that FreeBSD has better networking and IO management than #Linux. So this case might apply.

Other than that, we'll also have a secondary CTF server in the case main server is full or laggy.

Edit: I uploaded a screenshot. It is a poor red medic with a bounty on their head right before we cook him :))))

  3. RE: hachyderm.io/@Adorable_Sergal/

By the way, Xonotic is free. If you're on Linux, it's likely in your distro's repository already, so just install it from there. Their web site has downloads for Windows and MacOS, and given that it's pretty much just a turbo-Darkplaces Quake 1 engine, you likely can get it working on the Pi or even Haiku. I wonder if anyone's ported it to Haiku OS? That would be funny!

  32. We had an open source video game night at our house last night and it was a lot of fun! Some of my family and friends came. There was a mix of kids and grownups. People enjoyed SuperTuxKart. They would grab a controller and play some SuperTuxKart soccer or racing, and then drift off to get pizza or chat with people. After convicing them that the games were for grownups too, I had some intense races with my brother-inlaws 😃🏁 🚗 💨 !

We also had Luanti available. Fewer people played it because (depending of the game) it's a little harder to play casually. But my 4 y/o and his cousin loved it! They were happily punching blocks and occasionally asking me to do the command to make it daytime. It's so fun to see kids learning how to play a game and really getting into it.

Some custom styling is added to make it look nicer. I also found a way to compile the Python code into C (using Nuitka) to make it more performant, smaller in size. And the AppImage version is also done, except there are still some desktop integration issues, AppImageLaucher and other tools can't integrate it for some reason. Will figure out what's the issue.

  38. I have been playing 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘛𝘶𝘹𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘵 on my Android for a while now (I created an account yesterday). Admittedly, it looks like a PS3 game, but it is honestly a far better experience than most games on Google Play, with no ads and no pushing in-game purchases. Regrettably, it seems to heat my phone more than 𝘈𝘴𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘵 𝟪. I thought maybe it had something to do with wasted resources or the way the game is rendered. I may consider looking at the source code and streamlining it.

  39. Been smashing the OpenTTD lately.

It is a nice slow game, where the user has a god's eye view of a big isometric map.

On the map, the user can place many different kinds of transport routes and vehicles. Trains, road vehicles, aeroplanes, and seacraft can all be constructed.
