    Some FosseryWeb updates:
In the announcement post of last week's major update I asked whether the original site should have rounded, slighly rounded, or edged corners, all three options received one vote, so I decided to go with the middleground, the slightly rounded corners. I also updated the Timeline page to include last week's major update and the design change, fixed metadata on the Min site's cheatsheet pages (where the title said FosseryWeb instead of FosseryWeb Min), updated the "tools I use" section on About page.

    fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/
(The site is a bit slow at the moment, seems like Codeberg servers have some performance issues, probably a bit much load due to a bunch of FOSS projects leaving GitHub, the majority of them going to Codeberg. Luckily you can run the site(s) offline too, see instructions in README: codeberg.org/fosseryweb/pages)

Minor update to my Joplin config:
Joplin recently got an update where F11 got mapped to toggling fullscreen by default, which conflicted with my setting of toggling the note list, so I decided to modify toggling sidebar (notebook list) to F2 and toggling note list to F3, to ensure the two keys are next to each other, and don't conflict with any default setting.

  11. CW: (Last) Major FosseryWeb update - Java cheatsheets, RSS feed for articles, and more

As I already mentioned, I'll stop making big updates for FosseryWeb (Min), only upload my articles there, because I don't have much free time, and the codebase is hard to maintain because of repetitive code:

    social.linux.pizza/@fosserytec

In addition, this way, I'll have a bit more time to focus on what's Fossery Tech is originally about: promoting FOSS

But here's one last large update.

    1. New content/features
    1. Java cheatsheets
    2. RSS feed for articles
    3. Easy switch between original and Min site
    4. Projects page
    2. Other changes
    1. New Privacy Policy
    2. Better offline support, instructions to run the code offline
    3. Beta branch discontinued
    4. Bug fixes and other improvements
    3. My stance on age attestation/verification (spoiler: nope!)
    4. Design vote: rounded or edged corners?

Read the full announcement on Odysee: odysee.com/@fossery-tech:4/fos

Regarding the design vote, whether the original FosseryWeb should have rounded, edged, or slightly rounded corners, you can also vote here

  15. CW: (Last) Major FosseryWeb update - Java cheatsheets, RSS feed for articles, and more

As I already mentioned, I'll stop making big updates for FosseryWeb (Min), only upload my articles there, because I don't have much free time, and the codebase is hard to maintain because of repetitive code:

    social.linux.pizza/@fosserytec

In addition, this way, I'll have a bit more time to focus on what's Fossery Tech is originally about: promoting FOSS

But here's one last large update.

    1. New content/features
    1. Java cheatsheets
    2. RSS feed for articles
    3. Easy switch between original and Min site
    4. Projects page
    2. Other changes
    1. New Privacy Policy
    2. Better offline support, instructions to run the code offline
    3. Beta branch discontinued
    4. Bug fixes and other improvements
    3. My stance on age attestation/verification (spoiler: nope!)
    4. Design vote: rounded or edged corners?

  16. CW: FosseryWeb progress report

The last changes for the next (last) big update are pushed to the beta branch: Download buttons renamed to Export (to better reflect the functionality when the site is run locally), Articles became the first entry on the home page (since that will be the only section which will receive new content after the update), "Export all" options available for Java cheatsheets, Privacy Policy added, some "Related content" links are fixed.

The update will probably be merged into the main branch on Tuesday, after some testing.

  21. CW: FosseryWeb gets discontinued?? Well, kinda... (1/2)

You may have noticed that FosseryWeb development became extremely slow in the past few months, and you have to wait ages until I add the features, content you requested. Well, I feel like the codebase overgrew me, the site becomes harder and harder to maintain, as it becomes bigger and bigger. Producing cheatsheets and articles makes it grow pretty rapidly. Producing much of these content isn't really viable in the long run for a static site like FosseryWeb (Min), because if I want to change the code structure, I have to go over each page's HTML file one-by-one (although I could use client-side JS to eliminate some of the duplicate code, but it still wouldn't fully solve the issue because I can't store the full HTML code in JS, and it would also ruin the experience for many of you, who block JS in your browser). The ideal solution would be a dynamic web app, which I already experimented with earlier (see my Java/Spring endeavor: social.linux.pizza/@fosserytec), but it's literally impossible to find a FOSS hosting service with a reasonable Privacy Policy for dynamic sites (unfortunately Codeberg Pages is only for static sites), and I don't have my own server to host a site.

I also promised to release a contribution guide, to make the project a collaborative effort, to speed up development a bit, allow anyone to write articles, produce cheatsheets. I'm already half done with the guide, including most of the rules to follow, but in the past weeks, I thought about it a lot, whether I'll be able to keep up with reviewing all the cheatsheet, article submissions, and the more I think about it, the more I realize that I want a bit too much. I barely have enough free time. I only have about 1-2 hours a day to do anything outside my university studies on weekdays, so I might not have enough time to review all submissions, pull requests, especially if the site becomes more popular in the future (which may never be the case, but who knows)

I also added a Projects page (based on the XDG spec's new Projects directory lol, just kidding), to make my other projects easier to access. Not much there currently, just Burner Todo, and my Joplin config, but I might make a CLI version of Burner Todo later on (I'll learn C++ at university, will be a good practice project), and if I manage to switch from GNOME to a tiling WM, I'll also share my configs (although I'm not really a tinkerer type, I just like to set things up how I want and forget it).
    fosseryweb.codeberg.page/@beta
    fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/@
I also did some code refactoring, to unify the code of some page components (header, footer, Related contents section, etc.), for better consistency, readability; and I also shortened the names of some asset directories which were unnecessarily long.

  56. CW: FosseryWeb progress report

I the past couple of months, I didn't have much time to work on the site(s), but now I'm back on track. Since last weekend, I experimented a bit with AI, tried out various differents models/apps/services and prompts for automating common tasks like collecting content for programming cheatsheets, and converting cheatsheets from Markdown to HTML. Unfortunately I had to realize that most offline AI apps/models are pretty trash, they either crash constantly with larger models, are extremely slow, or miss the option to attach documents (which is important for converting a cheatsheet). I tried Ollama's new online service too, but it requires registration, and also asked for a valid phone number, I just refused to provide that. I ended up with Proton Lumo, which does a not perfect, but decent job at both information collection and cheatsheet conversion. I also made use of the new Projects feature (covered in last week's news post), made some prompt aliases, which aren't necessary but make prompting for repetitive tasks more convenient.
I also managed to finish another Java cheatsheet, the one about arrays, which you can already access in the beta version of both the original and Min site:
    fosseryweb.codeberg.page/@beta
    fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/@
If you notice any bug or typo, feel free to drop a comment.
I also tested the original site with the new Servo and Pale Moon releases, but nothing changed, there are still the same compatibility issues.
The last 2 planned Java cheatsheets (Lists, Maps) will probably be available in the next 2-3 weeks if everything go as planned, then I focus on the other stuff, like making the sites more offline-friendly, writing the contribution guide and Privacy Policy, etc.
