Ab wann ist man reich
Damit klar ist, worum es hier genau gehen soll, erst einmal eine kleine Definition dazu, was ich mit "Reich" genau meine. Ein Mensch ist dann reich, wenn er von den Erträgen seines Kapitals in Wohlstand leben kann, ohne dass er dafür sein Kapital verbrauchen muss. Wenn man von seinen Kapitalerträgen (Gewinnen) leben kann, bedeutet das insbesondere, dass man von der Arbeit andere lebt, denn Erträge können nur durch die Ausbeutung von natürlichen Ressourcen oder durch die Arbeit von Menschen erwirtschaftet werden.

Trilobites Triarthrus eatoni piritizado encontrado en la cantera de Martin, en el estado de Nueva York, en el yacimiento de Beecher, donde suelen encontrarse trilobites dorados. Estos especímenes tienen unos 455 millones de años, datando del Ordovícico. Embedded within a clear piece of amber, a small praying mantis sits at attention, frozen forever in time.The piece, which measures just slightly over one inch tall, was sold via Heritage Auctions for $6,000 in 2016.
The pristine piece of amber, which comes from the Dominican Republic, gives a rare view of this incredible mantis.
The amber itself derives from the extinct Hymenaea protera, a prehistoric leguminous tree. Most amber found in Central and #SouthAmerica comes from its resin.
#Amber from the #DominicanRepublic is known as Dominican resin, which is noted for its clarity and a high number of inclusions.
Heritage Auctions dates the piece in question to the Oligocene period, placing it anywhere from about 23 million to 33.9 million years old.
It’s an important period of time where the archaic Eocene transitions into more modern ecosystems of the Miocene period, which lasted until 5 million years ago. Incredibly, the mantis itself doesn’t appear so different from what we see today.
There are over 2,400 species of mantises today, mainly living in tropical climates. But the earliest mantis fossils, which date back 135 million years, come from a place that is, today, much colder—#Siberia.
Some early fossils even show mantises with spines on their front legs, just like modern mantises. Whoever bought this piece of amber took home an interesting piece of evolutionary #history, one that can be gazed at each day.

Ende 2024 will die #Ukraine die Durchleitung von #Erdgas aus #Russland nicht mehr zulassen. Das wird lustig für #Österreich. Bisher hat sich Österreich bei der Abhängigkeit von Russland nicht sonderlich weit bewegt.
Könnte die Bundesregierung bitte endlich ernsthaft #fosil Alternativen angehen. Bisher wurde ja viel geredet. Geändert hat sich fast nichts.

Tens of thousands of years ago, a huge horse species walked, trotted and galloped across the shifting sands of what is today South Africa’s Cape south coast.
The Giant Cape Zebra (Equus capensis) weighed an estimated 450 kg. Its extant relatives in southern Africa are far smaller: the plains zebra weighs between 250 and 300 kg and the Cape mountain zebra is the smallest of all zebra species, with a mass of between 230 and 260 kg.
