I'm thinking about prototyping a quick-and-easy #solarpunk #TTRPG based on #forTheQueen game.

Little setting, no characters, just a lot of story prompts on cards the players draw one after another to tell a tale together.

Some topics I'm exploring so far:

- A rescue effort after an environmental disaster, telling the story of the community being saved

- Climate refugees moving into a new, wooden sustainable social housing

Zum Abschluss der drei Tage #ProjektMyra Jahrestreffen eine Runde "Für die Kaiserin" sehr eng an das #ForTheQueen #Brettspiel von #DarringtonPress angelehnt, das mehr in die Rubrik der #kartenspiele gehört und deutsch bei @systemmatters war. Interessante Dynamik zwischen Taron don Umn und Bakanasan.

I really should be more active again. So here goes!

Yesterday, I played #VivaLaQueerBar by @plotbunnygames together with @Bratapfel, @curiouscat and another dear friend. It's a story game in the tradition of #ForTheQueen where we used card prompts to help us develop a queer bar and our characters within it. I've already played the game in a Roaring Twenties Berlin setting and a Shadowrun/cyberpunk future, but today, our bar was located in present day London. Also, it was a feeding ground for vampires.

Over the course of four wonderful hours, we found out that the primary team of the Broken Crown are Nigel Wilberburton (a fashion designer from Victorian times), Eugenie von Karnstein (a libertine highway woman from the Regency era), Charles Miller (modern photo model for the dictionary entry "superficial") and Nate Crandall (fledgling of the group, lawyer, masquerade keeper and *definitely* not to be called Jonathan).

Our bar was founded in, I believe, 1820 and we just had our bicentennial celebration with some of the original guests present. We found out what happened when Charles denied entry to a horribly unfashionable elder vampire, we had Nigel argue for (and Eugenie against) some necessary renovations, we saw Nate inch ever closer to a nervous breakdown trying to keep humanity from finding out about them and we finished the evening by holding a werewolf-themed party. As always with the game, we were reluctant to let our messy bunch of monsters go into the night, but fun was certainly had imagining their antics and I'd love to play again soon in another bar.

@auguryignored In my previous response, I was thinking mainly of traditional #ttrpgs with character sheets and dice, but there are many other types of #ttrpg where the past is very mutable. I'm specifically thinking of prompt-based games where the characters come to light over time, and players are expected to adjust previous decisions to fit new information. Stuff like #ForTheQueen and its descendants.

06 - Easy to use?

I can't think of any game that is easier to use and to learn than #ForTheQueen and most other #DescendedFromTheQueen games (including #VivaLaQueerBar and #AgainstTheMonster ). Draw cards, answer questions, magic happens!

Beyond GM-less games, I still think #BrindlewoodBay offers great support for both the GM and the players.

@WhatDoIKnowJR Last year I'd gone looking for "For the Queen" and couldn't find it because the new edition was coming out soon. Glad to read a review of it. From what I read, though, it sounds like the artwork and packaging are the only significant changes, right? The game's mechanics are essentially untouched?

I played #ForTheQueen yet again last night at the MK-RPG and we got in two sessions. In the first, the Queen was a brutal monster who was worshipped as a Goddess and used torture as a punishment to ensure the loyalty of her people. Eventually she was abducted by bandits while her people breathed a sigh of relief. #ttrpg 🧵

Game 1 of #Contingency2024 complete, though it was actually two games of #ForTheQueen back-to-back. This is such a solid design, delivers an outstaning & unique story every time I bring it to a #ttrpg table

@Fuchskind Hab es gerade diese Woche auf Englisch gespielt, in unter einer Stunde. Man kann #ForTheQueen also auch super spielen, wenn man keine 3-4 Stunden Zeit oder Energie hat.

@waytooshiny @julietaube Es hab bisher *sehr* wenige #ForTheQueen Runden, nach denen ich nicht gleich ne RP-Runde in dem Setting anfangen wollte.

Today's #WerewolfTheApocalypse game was mostly story-heavy. The characters of the veteran players explained all the prior events to the new packmate. Turns out we have played this campaign for five years now and despite only three months passing in game, a lot of stuff has happened...

Afterwards, the characters told stories they had heard of the main NPC of the coming scenario, the Admiral of a small ocean settlement called the Rust Fleet who once had to go on a diplomatic mission.
So now they will be meeting a cruel but honest tyrant with a weakness for cherry beer. The last question was "Do you think she is a good admiral"?

@thomas I love TTRPGs with world-building in them. Some do this on the fly and others do it procedurally in setting up the game.

Games like #Fate, #CortexPrime, and others let you spend resources and make things real, including setting elements.

Games like #TheQuietYear, #Dialect, and #ForTheQueen have you build/change as you go in the rules. #Epyllion asks you to detail the world using a map and I love it.

Games like #Microscope and #I'mSorryDidYouSayStreetMagic are about world-building.

Hier soir, j'ai playtesté le Grand Grand Hôtel de Côme Martin, et c'était très chouette.

La proposition est originale : on ne joue pas un personnage en particulier. On vit des scénettes dans l'hôtel, on crée des lieux, des personnages via un tirage de cartes et des mini-jeux. Y a un peu de #ForTheQueen et de #Firebrands là-dessous.

Et puis, y a un aspect legacy. C'était la 3e ou 4e partie dans cet hôtel. Des lieux et personnages existaient déjà. Et on a pu les utiliser.
