@janisf this is just horrifying to this Senior on Medicare who already has had major problems with third party authorizations even for an MRI to diagnose herniated discs! I am in Arizona. It’s already awful. Now this:
“firms to deploy AI to make what are known as “prior authorization” decisions regarding whether Medicare should pay for certain procedures, including spinal surgeries and steroid injections. The program is set to run first in Arizona, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington.”

I received marketing spam today from, of all places, #Labcorp, a medical testing company, advertising their on-demand testing service, which "puts your health in your hands by letting you purchase lab tests online."
This is the best illustration I've seen recently of the evil of both #LateStageCapitalism and #ForProfitHealthcare.

It was a 79-mile (127 km) helicopter flight in Tennessee (by a private company backed by equity investors). When people call 911, they go with whatever ambulance (or flight ambulance) service takes them to the hospital.

@gemelliz Having lived in both US and Canada, please believe me Canadians should not want the US system. It's cruel and barbaric. Both US political parties fully support this for-profit system, backed of course by the political donations of for profit health insurers.
In Canada, these cynical efforts always begin with "but the wait times! and hey, we should have a tiered system!". It's a trojan horse. This is private health insurers propaganda, always.
