  1. Spent part of my evening putting together a new #Yoto card playlist for my son. I don't have a printer so I drew the card sticker myself. Does anyone else here like Over the Garden Wall?

  2. RE: theforkiverse.com/@flpm/116003

My first work for #Risograph printing used a photo from the web with an interesting story we uncovered because of the #forkiverse (see the comments in the quoted post) thanks @autorotate_blanket for opening the rabbit hole!

  3. Hey #forkiverse peeps!

Have you been paying attention to all the #superbOwl posts?

It may be spelled like a certain football game going on today, but many mastodonians love nature even more than Chips Dips Beer and TV.

Why don't you join us. Cruise and like the #superb_owl #superb_owl_sunday and other related bird tags.

    Who whoot!

  4. Two Guys Walk Into the Forkiverse

You can follow PeerTubers from your Fediverse account. You can also like and comment.

  6. So.. I just listened to the most recent episode of #HardFork #podcast and couldn’t help but notice that in the 3rd segment of the episode (where they discuss #forkiverse updates with @pj from #searchengine ) they mention that they were surprised to see some listeners were “woodworkers in British Columbia” and I was like.. wait a minute; are they referencing me or is there a crew of people constantly covered in sawdust here that I’m unaware of?
If so: Please make yourself known!

  7. I was so ready to leave Instagram behind, but then my feed started showing me cute rat videos.

#forkiverse & #fediverse please give me your best #pet videos (preferably rodents) to keep me from falling into the dark pits of the gram.

  9. #BostonWeekend 21/x whether you’re doing #ANE or #MysteryHunt or #Arisia this weekend, are new to #Boston, or newly here on the #fediverse (looking at you #forkiverse people) - welcome, and thanks for choosing to build community here. I do a weekly events roundup and maintain a Boston starter pack - give me a follow and check it out if ya like: fedidevs.com/s/Mzgz/ #massachusetts

  10. I feel like the #forkiverse will #captionthis better than I ever could.
I know there is a joke here somewhere. #Cats

  11. Hey #forkiverse should we start our own versions of popular hashtags by putting 'f' in front of them? #fhistory #fscience #fart

  12. Shot in the dark but is anyone else here a teacher? I am working on revising the literacy curriculum at my school and feel as though I’m doing it in complete isolation. I’d love to chat with another professional about it. #forkiverse #teachers #curriculum (im trying with this tagging stuff but I have legit never done it before)

  13. CW: The Forkiverse people may honestly believe that their Forkiverse is a centralised walled garden, and so is mastodon.social, the other Mastodon website; CW: long (2,900 characters), Fediverse meta, Fediverse-beyond-Mastodon meta
Why does someone call one single Fediverse server, one single website "-verse"?

Because they're probably stuck at freshly-switched-from-the-𝕏-iPhone-app-to-the-Mastodon-iPhone-app level of Fediverse knowledge. They probably don't simply believe that the Fediverse is only Mastodon. No, they must believe that the Fediverse is only one server, one website, namely mastodon.social. They might be unable to imagine that multiple Twitter-like websites that run the same code can communicate with each other. After all, they haven't heard of anything like this having happened before.

Which also means that the guys behind the Forkiverse think that their Forkiverse is every but as much a centralised, single-website walled garden silo as they think the Fediverse, i.e. mastodon.social, is. And that there are exactly two websites running Mastodon code now, namely mastodon.social, for which the Mastodon code was probably developed, and the Forkiverse.

If that's so, they're probably going to go completely insane once they discover that people on mastodon.social start leaving content in their Forkiverse. Or people from wholly different Mastodon servers, something they might not even expect to exist.

And that says nothing about how they'll react upon the first comment on a Forkiverse post from something that's very much, very obviously, very blatantly not Mastodon. Like Friendica or Hubzilla or (streams) or Forte. Something that does everything differently from Mastodon, from 33,000 times more characters to text formatting to bullet-point lists to headlines to very different-looking hashtags and mentions.

I mean, I know that Mastodon users who got used to a Mastodon-only Fediverse frequently lose their minds when they come across the first message that's obviously not from Mastodon, and whose author states and proves that this is not a Mastodon toot. And I've seen at least one tech journalist insist in Mastodon being an enclosed network itself and himself being right because he, very much unlike those filthy amateurs that drivel about Calckey and Friendica and Hubzilla and whatnot, is a journalist and therefore a professional.

But imagine you know next to nothing about Mastodon, other than that mastodon.social is a website that's an alternative to 𝕏, and that it's running on an open-source server application that's also named Mastodon. And then you set up your own website with the same code. And you think it's every bit a walled garden as 𝕏 and as mastodon.social straight out of the box. And then you, as one of the admins and site owners, receive a comment on one of your posts that so very much blatantly not even a Mastodon toot.

Brix will be shat. This will hurt horribly.

  14. #intro 01—Hello #Forkiverse!
I've been working on the Internet in civil service since 1996, and helped building the first .gov.br websites. I though we we're doing good, but we were kind of naive then. Now it's time to get our old Internet back, and from everything I've seen, I came to the conclusion that…we have to "finish building #theFediverse."
Today I work at the Brazilian Institute for #Museums, we are exploring ways to bring #memoryInstitutions into the #Fediverse:

  15. My initial #forkiverse / #fediverse impression is that this place is far too serious. I would like to see a significant uptick in #shitposts immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  16. Another dialogue started, another opportunity to improve things in the local community.

It started with this post - see first graphic

Which made me remember our local news reporting - 2nd graphic...which probably is also reported in your local paper, yes?

I asked our editor about this practice/policy - 3rd graphic

Will things improve with regard to this local reporting? That is a definite maybe. (If this dialogue had not started, then I can confidently say that nothing would change.)

I'll follow up on this the next time I meet our local editor for green chile cheeseburgers.

Thank you @algernon for sparking a dialogue!

  17. Hi #forkizen folks: this is woefully just a quick start, but I created a Mastodon #StarterPack Pack of the top most active posters I've seen on the #forkiverse so far. Will up this later to day to top 30 later. Very up to add anyone - and very up to transfer ownerhsip of this starter pack to someone from that server.

Also I added @Casey - but could not add @pj nor @kevin as their forkiverse mastodon accounts are set to not allow it. In comment I'll note ow to fix.

  18. Hey #forkiverse people, here is something not obvious to think about as you start interacting. Everyone on the #fediverse can set the controls about auto-deleting their content, including you. So consider how long you want it to stick around, but also realize that **anything** you see might be gone later. If there is a link you want to refer to, capture it in something - #Notion or #Obsidian or #Karakeep or just a text file. It will save you heartbreak trying to find that really cool thing you don't quite remember.

I made the decision to autodelete my posts. When I was cleaning out my Twitter account it was after the automated tools quit working so I ended up deleting them one by one over the course of a month. I saw an embarrassing number of them that were some variation of "welp, time for lunch" in the early days of that platform. I made the decision for myself that this is a platform of transient content of transient value. If I write something of ongoing value, it should be elsewhere and linked from here. My personal blog is a great start but could be anything.

The key here is own your stuff, control your own stuff, set up your preferences intentionally (going through all the settings one by one won't hurt) and most of all HAVE FUN!!!

  19. Zohran Mamdani's historic campaign victory to become mayor of NYC is largely attributed to widespread support of countless #forkizen (s) in the #forkiverse

Many of them serve in New York City Hall today.

  20. Antanas Mockus was a two-term mayor of Bogotá.

"He became known for springing surprising and humorous initiatives upon the city's inhabitants. These tended to involve grand gestures...including...walking the streets dressed in spandex and a cape as Supercitizen."

If Antanas were mayor today, he'd encourage us all to become #forkizen (s) in the #forkiverse

  21. @stefan to be exact, its #forkiverse #forks ... Not folks 🤣
