John LubbockExcerpt: "Inspired by the Scandinavian embrace of #OutdoorLearning, the #ForestSchool movement migrated to the UK in the 1990s and has grown strongly ever since. In the US, the first nature-based preschool, the #NewCanaanNatureCenter, opened in 1967 in #Connecticut. The pace of nature-based preschools was gradual until, many say, after the publication of #RichardLouv’s #LastChildInTheWoods in 2005. Soon after, the growth of these schools went wild, experiencing a 25-fold increase over the past decade.
"Around the world, the forest school movement has also been growing strong. Whether you find forest schools in the UK, #BushKindys in #Australia, #waldkindergarten in #Germany or #MoriNoIe in #Japan, forest schools can be found in dozens of countries as parents and caretakers seek out the benefits of nature for their children, particularly for the early childhood years."

Kiddo made an interesting archeological find at #ForestSchool the other day. They had been studying ancient artifacts, like arrowheads, when he happened to find this rock with marks clearly carved into it. His fellow learners had many hypotheses about its purpose. #Archaeology #PandemicHomeschool

Dia dhuit folks! Carraig Dulra is a #socialenterprise on a small #organic #permaculture farm in County #Wicklow Mike & Suzie Cahn set it up in 2007.Our core focus is community, #sustainability and #socialjustice, often using #permaculturedesign as a tool.
We do community outreach projects, host #homeschool and #forestschool groups, run #permaculture design certificate courses #pdc every year. In fact, this is our 10 year anniversary of our PDC.

Winter Solstice at our #forestschool site:
Candles represent the sun (beeswax - even contains the summer sun!). Ivy & holly, two sacred plants of Yule. Holly for the Holly King who takes over the throne from the Oak King. The Holly King’s reign is about stillness, rest, learning and reflecting on the year. Ivy is symbolic of rebirth. We made ivy crowns for clearing our minds. Hot chocs & a sun shaped Choc Bundt cake, sang and put out some home made bird feeding bits. Loving a bit of ritual. -
